MILWAUKEE - It's the beer that made Milwaukee famous. Now Schlitz is making the city nostalgic.
That beer with the old-time mystique is back on shelves in bottles of its original formula in the city where it was first brewed more than a century and a half ago.
Schlitz was the top-selling beer for much of the first half of the 20th century. But recipe changes and a series of snafus made the beer — in many a drinker's opinion — undrinkable, turning what was once the world's most popular brew into little more than a joke.
Cont.....
I've tipped many a pint of this stuff. :cheersmate:
What made Milwaukee famous made a loser outta me. :-)

I want the Hamm's Beer bear back. From the land of sky blue waters....

Didn't they have the dancing bear?
All that is left is Black Label. Mable, Black Label.
(I should have watched the vid first. :hammer:)

Yeah. I edited the above post to add that I should have watched the vid first.
I do things backward. I drank PBR growing up and killed massive amounts of brain cells in a single sitting.

My Grandfather drove truck for PBR for 35 years, they used to give him a couple of cases a week just as a bonus along with that he was allowed to keep the broken cases from when the store owner broke one open for selling singles. When he died we were cleaning out his garage and the man had close to 200 broken cases of PBR still in there! :lmao: The really weird thing is the beer hadn't skunked or lost it's carbonation! :uhsure: :-)

Fat Che's Little Brothert was the 1st co. to go to those short, stubby bottles. Everyone else has the long necks. They had the twist off cap. I would imagine that the party stores were pissed because they had to make different cooler space allotment to store those cases.

Hmm, there' s a story in that last part. :cheersmate:
As for the name, this is big time nostalgic. It's a beer seen often in the enclaves of Baltimore proper.

The Hamm's Brewery in St Paul, MN was sold to Stroh's and then to Miller. The brewery has been subsequently shut down. I THINK they do tours there nowadays.
I've always like Schlitz and it NEVER gave me any "intestinal problems".......... Hopefully, they will continue with the original recipe and brewing methods.

Cool. Cheap nasty beer is back.
Ok It wasn't that bad to me in the 70's but then again what did we know. All we cared about was that it was beer and we could drink at age 18.

Yeppers on the PBR. Every so often to change things up it was Mickey Big Mouths or Olympia. Truth be told back then I'd drink most anything but at times got a choice . Only folks I recall drank schlitzs were the functioning & not so functional alkies. :naughty:

When funds were low a bottle of Boones farm and a small bottle of Everclear did the trick.
Drink some "Purple jesus"and you were speaking Swahilli in no time.
