USA Today Columnist Urges Motorists To ‘Run Down’ Protesters On North Carolina Highway
Twitter suspended the account of Glenn Reynolds after the inflammatory comment.
09/22/2016 03:36 am ET
Conservative USA Today columnist and University of Tennessee law professor Glenn Reynolds caused an uproar on Twitter when he urged motorists to drive over protesters blocking a highway in North Carolina.
“Run them down,†Reynolds, who also produces the Instapundit website, tweeted late Wednesday with an image of the protesters on I-277.
Twitter suspended the account, but The Huffington Post preserved a screenshot of the tweet

1. Protesting is the American way.
Funny that, conservatives screaming about freedom liberty and the constitution , seem to know nothing about it.
^^^ For 200 points, please describe the difference between a protest and a riot...

4. A little ironic
-considering that there are many people here at DU cheerleading the rioting versus peaceful protest

7. The context of this was the peaceful protests. Rioting is self-defeating

10. No, it wasnt
The context was rioters were stopping and surrounding cars on 277 at midnight. This was after they tried to toss a journalist in a fire, knocked a CNN reporter on his ass on live TV and someone had been shot. After I85 had been blocked the night before, trucks stopped and the contents burned and bricks were thrown from onto cars from overpasses.
That's the context. And there is no way in hell I would stop under those circumstances. I wouldn't purposely run them down, but I'm getting the hell out of there however I need to.
^^^ B2G is also living on the edge of the island. Also, B2G obviously does not understand or empathize with the poor, misunderstood protesters.

11. I was responding based on the text of the OP, and the OP didn't indicate the
additional information you provided.
As to your second point, of course, if someone one felt threatened, they would do what they needed to do to protect themselves, and if that meant getting away from the area, they would do so, of course trying to avoid running someone down.
Obviously my comment regarding peaceful protest was wrong, but the other parts of my comments I stand by, no one should encourage someone to intentionally run down someone, and rioting is a self-defeating exercise
Thanks for correcting me on the context

5. Do you think it's okay to terrorize people in their cars?
^^^ What a silly question - of course it is alright to do that, and loot stores, and set fires, and...

9. I'm sure a lot of motorists will take a chance on being charged with assault or murder or
reckless driving, losing their car insurance because of any such charges.
^^^ The edge of the island is getting crowded.

What's with Twitter? They allow all kinds of direct death threats to conservative or republican candidates and their families. "Imma kill Ann Romney!" That's A-OK.
Apparently his account has been reinstated.
Trying to throw a live journalist into a fire is so horrifying it really should be a game changer. It should turn all public opinion completely against these savages. Apparently not at the DUmp, though.

Wasn`t it just a protest at the Bundy ranch DUmbshits?

1. Those are not protestors. Those are terrorists.
2. Remember the phrase "I was in fear for my life."
3. Ask Reginald Denning how well stopping for a black mob works out for you.
4. The one guy who should the black terrorists his gun went right on through.

3. Ask Reginald Denning how well stopping for a black mob works out for you.
...
Predictably, DU-folk left out the context. Glenn Reynolds was speaking of what to do when surrounded by rioters while driving one's car. Not of intentionally driving to a riot so as to run people down. Further, Reynolds clarified (on Hugh Hewitt's show) that he meant to slowly keep driving, so as to extricate oneself from mortal danger, not mowing people down.
Are DU-folk aware that Twitter unblocked Reynolds, on the condition that he delete his one Tweet (preserved on Michelle Malkin's site and quoted on PJMedia). Whether he continues "providing Twitter with free content" remains to be seen. He won't be losing anything if he doesn't.
And, yes, I'm sure Glenn Reynolds was thinking of Reginald Denny.

I believe the relevant phrase is "the right of the people to peaceably assemble".
Now ask yourself whether what you're seeing would qualify as peaceably assembling.

20. I must be a deplorable. If I had been on that interstate ...
with my wife and kids in the car, or maybe even all alone, and a group of individuals attempted to stop my vehicle in that tumultuous situation; I believe I would have hit the accelerator.

You want to talk about "Funny"?
Let's compare two different American protests:
1. About 6 years ago, I was part of a Tea Party demonstration near a busy intersection. Although I guarantee we had at least a thousand people there, we stayed peaceful and orderly, and stood along the grassy area between the sidewalk and the road (The demonstrators stretched as far as I could see). That way, our protest would not be a hindrance or blockage to either cars going along the road at the intersection, or pedestrians going along the sidewalk.
2. In contrast, in this current Charlotte protest, crime and violence are rampant, and the rioters aren't just deliberately blocking traffic: THey're also actually physically attacking motorists.
I'd say that drives home the difference between a protest and a riot.

Well come on! Everyone knows that Tea Party protests were inherently violent, racist, and should have been broken up by riot cops. In the same vein, Trump rallies are violent but only because leftists physically attack Trump supporters. Usually they attack in packs and attack women and children.
The left always, ALWAYS accuses others of what they are doing or planning on doing.

I wonder if :loser: "kpete" :loser: paused her Snoopy-dance long enough to learn that Glenn Reynolds was "reinstated" by Twitter? Or that UTenn's Law School closed its "investigation" with no action taken, calling his Tweet, "an exercise of his First Amendment rights"? (http://law.utk.edu/2016/09/27/dean-statement)

The public relations side is important, too.
500 people with flags and signs, standing beside the road and not blocking traffic, waving and smiling at cars going by =/= 500 people blocking traffic, surrounding cars, throwing Molotov cocktails or chunks of concrete, and setting fire to police cars.
And for the fake Veteran DUmmy who thought he was Billy Badass for saying 'I believe I would hit the accelerator': You are a punk bitch. If you are not able to say unequivocably that you'd roll over any mother****er who tried to hurt your family like a lawnmower, then you're not worth the spit to show my contempt for you.
