AN EXPLOSION has taken place at a New Jersey train station after a backpack riddled with IEDs was discovered by two homeless men amid fears America is in the midst of a tsunami of terror.
A bomb squad was called to the Northeast Corridor train tracks in Elizabeth, New Jersey, after five explosive devices was found in a backpack.
But as a robot was working on the package, it exploded, according to a police officer at the scene – it was reportedly not a controlled blast, indicating it could have been triggered remotely.

According to Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage, two unidentified men found a package in a trash bin around 9.30pm and decided to take it because they ‘thought it was of some value’.
When they saw wires and the pipe they dropped it and called Elizabeth Police.

Based on just a little info, there are a couple of partially intersecting patterns among the NYC and NJ bombings. All the bombs used cell phones as timing devices. OTOH, the NYC bombs were pressure cooker bombs, while the NJ bombs were pipe bombs, using multiple devices in each in an attempt to magnify the effects (only one of the pipe bombs on the race course went off).
So, one trigger type, but two different construction types. However I suspect that if I Googled "pipe bomb" and "pressure cooker bomb" I would find multiple sites with instructions for constructing each. And I'm sure there are instructions on the Internet on how to use a "burn phone" as a timer/trigger. So those basic construction techniques are probably not very useful as clues. OTOH, there may be discernible patterns in the particular materials used, how the parts were laid out, and the workmanship and techniques.

CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) -- Authorities believe all the incidents involving explosive devices in New York and New Jersey over the weekend are connected, sources tell ABC News.
One source says it is still unclear if this is the work of one suspect, or the deliberate work of a broader group.
The FBI has released a wanted poster for a suspect in the Chelsea bombing. He may be related to five people who were taken into custody for questioning by the FBI in connection with Saturday night's bombing in Chelsea.

The 28-year-old suspect is identified as Ahmad Khan Rahami.
Looks like, technically, Rivera was incorrect. The suspect (and those of his family who were involved) is Afghan rather than Arabic. But Rivera and his sources were in the right ballpark, so to speak.
