Title: McCain looking at Cantor?

Quote
RICHMOND, Va. - John McCain's campaign has asked Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor for personal documents as the Republican presidential candidate steps up his search for a running mate, The Associated Press has learned.

Cantor, 45, the chief deputy minority whip in the House, has been mentioned among several Republicans as a possible running mate for McCain. A Republican familiar with the conversations between Cantor and the McCain campaign said Cantor has been asked to turn over documents, but did not know specifically what records were sought.

Quote
Cantor has been a visible McCain surrogate for weeks, appearing frequently on cable news outlets chiefly to promote McCain's positions on domestic and economic issues. He has been a forceful critic of Democrat Barack Obama's resistance to lifting the federal ban on oil and gas drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

Cantor has strong support among the party's conservatives, perhaps comforting a segment of the GOP base that has been reluctant to embrace McCain, who has often been at odds with members of his own party on several issues, including a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, federal funds for embryonic stem cell research and campaign finance reform.

Any thoughts?  The guy's only a name to me.

Eric's da bomb, we're lucky to have him on our side.  (He's my representative so I do kinda know about him.)

REAL conservative.  Unlike Obama he does know how to get-r-done in Congress witness his deputy whip credentials as a mere pup.

That being said, I'm not sure I want him on the ticket.

He's not exactly what McCain needs and frankly I want better for him.  I really wanted him to run for senate against Mark Warner or perhaps governor.

I am very close to filling into the Sarah Palin camp.  the investigation into her firing of the director of public safety is all politically motivated.  that chick kicks ass and takes names.

one day, we will have a jindal/palin ticket, and it will win in a landslide.

McCain/Palin
Palin/Cantor
Cantor/Jindal

We are growing some real talent again.  If we can just hold serve in the fall its going to get really hard to beat us and that will allow true conservatism to come back with the vengence this country so desperately needs.

Imagine it, Palin could be our first female, Cantor our first jew and Jindal our first asian !

I am embarrassed to admit that I'm not more familiar with Cantor. Wolf is my rep in VA.

This could get interesting if the ooooobama is looking at Tim Kaine.

exactly.  republicans want to create an envronment in which people can succeed, and lift themselves up.  dems want to keep the minorities on the plantation, where they can control them.

Don't feel bad, I know next to nothing about Wolf.

I'm so hoping he picks Kaine.  That guy is as vacuous as BHO is and a total failure as governor.  Moreover he'll do NOTHING to help in the Old Dominion.  The only reason he's governor now is that NVa & Tidewater knew he was a better bet to get the rest of us to pay for their roads.  The White House can't do a thing to help that which is why we always vote GOP.  All those people in NVa work for the DoD which the Dems would shut down.

Lots lo like about Cantor, that kids is going places.

You would have to assume that but Kaine is the only guy I know who could not make BHO look bad in comparison.  I know that seems hard to believe but if you had seen him from his city council days here in Richmond till today you would understand.

another good point.  rule #1 when picking a veep is to not pick someone that will outshine you in any way.  that was john kerry's first mistake.  edwards, for all his failings, made kerry look like a corpse.

Thats my only concern about Mitt as veep but I think he's smart enough to work it out.

as I said, I am seriously considering Sarah Palin.  it was mentioned in this forum once before, and I panned it because we already have alaska, and I didn't see what it would bring to the ticket.

the more that I discover about her, the more I like her.

I'm really warming up to her but I think Mitt fills a big hole even if he brings along some anti-Morman sentiment.

GWB picked Cheney, that's what the Palin pick would remind me of - a conservative from a solid-GOP state.

I 'd rather to see a governor on the ticket as well, but Cantor should be at least considered:

Bashing the U.N. is always a positive AFAIC.

I don't think his or Romeny's religion should qualify or disqualify either.

A victory for Gov. Palin...
Quote
TransCanada Corp., Canada's largest pipeline company, won state approval and a $500 million subsidy to proceed with plans to build an estimated $27 billion pipeline that will carry natural gas from Alaska's Arctic region to U.S. markets.

The Alaska Senate voted today in favor of the proposal by Calgary-based TransCanada, following approval last month by the House. The company will get a state license to begin studies and early work on the pipeline.

"We've been trying to get this pipeline for 30 years," Alaska State Senator Hollis French said today. "This piece of legislation gets us there."

The project was born out of an effort by Governor Sarah Palin to exploit gas deposits on Alaska's North Slope that were discovered decades ago and stranded by the inability to get the heating and power-plant fuel to users. Palin solicited pipeline proposals last year and chose TransCanada's after saying competing plans didn't meet the state's requirements.
