Title: Umm... Convention antics... no posts about it at all? #NeverTrump
Post by: SighLass on July 19, 2016, 06:24:00 AM
Questions I have... Have/will the GOPe/Trump release the proof that the names actually dropped like they claimed? At one point a fellow yells out to turn on mic from his state, does that mean they selectively turned off mics from states they didn't want hear? What 3 states did they claim had names withdraw?

I smell Fascism here and it doesn't smell good whatsoever.

Has this site gone full scale Trump and I missed it?

Your error is in believing CC to be "The Republican Cave". It's not.  If somebody wants to writing about your convention, then he'll write about it. If you want to write about it, then go ahead.

The most interesting part of this convention so far, for me, was the 100 naked women outside. The best the Libertarian Party could come up with at our convention was a fat guy dancing in a thong.

I have to side with Big Dog on this one.  Some of them, from what I could see, didn't look that bad. :whistling:

Umm.... that was part of the appeal of the forum, that it was not for the most part lock-step republican, because I wasn't such myself. But I admit I was disappointed this rift wasn't mentioned that I saw. Perhaps I missed it. Also, perhaps I did come off a little rude, sorry about that. I was more surprised than anything though.

I understand that those doing the hard work of posting topics are under appreciated. And I could take your suggestion and actually foot some of the bill. Being newish though sometimes you step on toes though, so I play lurker most the time. Hard to break the ice where the blue bloods have thousands of posts and you don't have the attributes of some of those pretty things you referenced to in your post outside the convention. Married with kids so I don't often frequent sites that cause tense moments when the wife walks in the room. Figure I am just as straight male as any normal human can be when looking at the most beautiful thing God made, but well my maleness often hinges on someone not getting mad enough to relocate me to the doghouse (which smells and is sorta cramped and scratchy). There is a term (not a term of endearment) for that, but it shall go unmentioned by me.

Must admit, not much of a libertarian fellow, but for what is is worth, that fellow dancing at your convention was a hoot. We do share some similarities in some issues, but honestly I remember when the libertarians were open border folks (I think they changed positions some years back) and it just sorta rubbed me wrong and stuck. Ohh well. Never did understand the different between Big L and little L but libertarians never really cared to be fully understood from what I gathered anyway.

I'll touch on a couple of your points.

1. If you want to talk about something, don't wait for the other guy to start a thread. Be "the other guy".

2. The hundred naked ladies struck me as more of a "welcome to Cleveland!' message than a "we hate you and go away" message. The dancing ginger dude at the LP convention wa a sure-enough violation of the Non-Aggression Principle (that is libertarian humor).

3. Libertarianism is a philosophy based on some pretty basic principles. A 'small l' libertarian is someone who lives by the philosophy. A 'capital L' Libertarian is a registered member of the Libertarian Party, which is like any other political party, only with more dancing gingers.

Thought about Gary Johnson till I read this:
Quote
Johnson: I think we should make it as easy as possible for somebody who wants to come into this country and work to get a work visa. I’m not talking about a green card. The solution is to create a moving line. Don’t put the government in charge of quotas. There will either be jobs or there won’t be jobs. And a work visa should include a background check and a Social Security card so that taxes get paid.

Once some people get across the border they disappear regardless of how they enter.

(Going to check out the naked women.)  :-)

If antics are to be talked about. Let's mention the antics of Ted Cruz last night. I haven’t harbored a single thing against him until his little stunt on stage. Now? What a bastard. I guess making that pledge was all well and good until it wasn't convenient.

For me, that moment came in the aftermath of Chicago when Cruz took the lead (although he was eagerly followed) in blaming Trump for the Bernie Sanders supporters rioting.

That could have been a moment of calling for unity among Republicans, and could have even propelled his then flailing campaign to perhaps close the gap between him and Trump. But instead, he revealed his petty character. I guess he doubled down in it last night.

Die-hard Cruzbots and neverTrumpers are cheering him today, but he didn't gain any new friends with that stunt, and fell pretty far with a lot of people who hadn't soured on him yet.

Several FNC commentators have said that Cruz pushed some old Cruz supporters over to Trump with his non-endorsement.  Richard Viguere over at Conservative HQ was a Cruz supporter . . . but has flipped because of his action last night.  I'd put the link here, but I haven't quite figured out how to do that with my iPad yet . . . :o :banghead:

There are about four or five that could pass for reasonably good-looking from behind, and some ecologically-friendly cloth shopping bags would come in handy if the front doesn't live up to the first impression.

My take is, most professional politicians don't look at "pledges" the same way we do. They're negotiable, malleable, changing. Just like Barry and his having "evolved" about gay marriage.

They all lie -- it's just a question of degree.

The Hillary alternative would mean the end of Freedom. I'll take Trump over that.
