Dear Jillian Johnson: The Most Dangerous People Are Ignorant People Like You

Our military men and women are incredibly important to me. I’m the daughter of a Marine, the goddaughter of a Marine and Soldier, the granddaughter of a WWII Naval Hero and a WWII Army Hero. I’m the great-granddaughter of a Major in the Army who saved hundreds of lives as a combat surgeon and physician during WWI. I don’t tritely say “I love our troops†because it’s a good old-fashioned American talking point, I say “I love our troops†because I share their blood line and because they laid down their lives for my freedom.
Jillian Johnson, a Democratic member of the Durham City Council recently said, “the most dangerous people with guns are cops and soldiers.â€
Oh, Jillian.

Here is an article from the local paper (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/community/durham-news/article85243142.html), including a pic. How did I know ...?
As soon as I read, "My grandfather was only one of two pilots who returned from a fleet of 47 during the Battle of Midway," in the article Ptarm linked I knew her grandfather had flown in torpedo bombers (VT6, from the Enterprise?). Their planes were obsolete, and the three torpedo bomber squadrons that attacked the Japanese carrier group arrived unescorted. Their sacrifice was not for naught, as the fighter cover for the Japanese carrier group were drawn down to low altitude, and their gas and ammunition depleted. When USN dive bombers arrived, also unescorted, they faced little fighter opposition, and 3 of the carrier group's carriers were mortally wounded. There's a lot more to the story of that fight, and I think Gordon Prange's book title, Miracle at Midway[/i] may be literally true. Kami Mueller's grandfather was a hero who went through Hell.
