Battlehymn uses a 1969 Vitamix 3600 that any of you primitives can have, IF you can manage to pry it from my cold, dead hands:

Question About Blenders
I am in the market for a good blender.Thinking about Vitamix.
Any suggestions about a basic Vitamix or a really good one not as expensive as the Vitamix?
Thank you!

1. Vitamix is selling a smaller blender with the same power as the regular
Vitamix for about $270 something, rather than the over $350 one. Go to QVC.com and search for it. It has the same powerful motor but on a smaller scale. Check it out. I have the big Vitamix that I paid about $379 for. I love it! But if you can get the same power in a smaller size, I'd go for it.
Isn't $400 for a blender a little out of the reach of, oh, I dunno, the 99%?

4. Mine is Vitamix Creations II. The one I mentioned that I saw on QVC
on Memorial Day weekend was the Vitamix S30, which they were selling for $270. It had family sized 40 oz container and a 20 oz personal smoothie container. I just checked QVC for the video and their price now is $399! with 4 easy payments of $99. Keep watching the QVC show on Sundays "In the Kitchen with David" from 12:00 to 3:00 where they sell a lot of these products with a one-time bargain price for them.
Good luck!

3. Love my vitamix!
It's old, but good!
Got to agree with this DUmmie. My old Vitamix is fantastic.

12. I like the idea..
...of having a blender I can one day call "old"..
I have discarded several over the years..
Thank you for your reply!
So you've been supporting disposable living this whole time? Isn't that... anti-DUmmie talk?

5. Vitamix and Blentec compare pretty well
Both make commercial and semi-commercial blenders. Both have far more power than your average blender.
I like the Blendtec because they have electronic controls that ramp up the speed of the blender automatically. They are also programmable so that you can save various profiles for various tasks like ramping up slow to medium or high speed, ramping up then alternating between slow and high, etc. They also have a high and low button for manual operation. This makes operation as simple as selecting the preset for you task and leaving the blender alone to finish. This is how professional operations usually do it which is why you see more Blendtec blenders in that setting.
On the older Vitamix blenders you had to do all this manually, which gives you more control, but harder to repeat a given operation. I'm not sure how the newer Vitamix blenders work.
The Blendtec I have is a refurbished commercial model. I've had it for a few years and it still runs like a champ with no issues whatsoever. What I really like about it is it has a plexiglass guard that surrounds it and greatly cuts down on the noise. It also prevents you from slinging food all over the kitchen if you forget to put the lid on.
So if you want to save some money, you might look at used or refurbished. Both Vitamix and Blendtec are built like a tank and most people just aren't going to wear one out.
Battlehymn's tried and true method for testing a blender's power, DUmmie style: Stick your hand in the blender and grip the blendy bit tightly. Then flip the switch. If you can't hold on to the blendy bit, it's probably a pretty strong blender, and you should buy it.

6. I guess we're all VitaMix fans here!
Look for refurbished models, too
We'll see how long that lasts, after you morons see this thread in the DUmpster. You can't possibly like ANYTHING that a conservative also likes, now could you?

Honest question.
Is there a real reason to pay that much for a blender over basic store offerings?
I am not being critical, just wondering the benefits.

I dunno, Carl.
I have a West Bend blender, bought used back in 2001 right after I moved up here.
it's chewed up everything one can imagine.
And still going strong.
If I recall correctly, at the time it cost a dollar, because I was there near the end of a garage sale.

One benefit is that when someone gets one of these fancy high-dollar blenders, they are willing to let their old but adequate blender go for one dollar at a garage sale. We were given a like new Hamilton Beach 14 speed blender for free by my mother when she bought some newfangled kind of blender. We have a kitchen full of great pots and pans and assorted utensils--cast off by my mom. I wasn't surprised to see the primitives mention QVC--QVC could sell snow cones to the Eskimos. My mom buys a ton of stuff from there. Also, my mom is a democrat.

The only blenders I've ever really encountered were cheapies. In order to make margaritas & such drinks. Burning out the motor is common with an inexpensive one. Used to be able to buy another used one or a very cheap for less than $20.
-
I've never actually bought a blender myself. The Vitamix came my direction, and it's not going anywhere.
The other ones were given to me by others when they bought new ones. I've given all but one away of those, too.
I suppose if you were trying to blend marbles you might break a blender, but I've never broken one myself.
The Vitamix stays around because it can make hot soup or ice cream, depending on which way the blades turn.

Now, nobody's criticizing that you have an expensive state-of-the-art blender, sir.
For you, it's simply a nice tool, a nice utensil, to have.
We're making fun of the primitives who think the more expensive something is, the more of a status symbol, a symbol of self-worth, it is.
Decent and civilized people judge themselves by what they are; primitives judge themselves by what they have.

^^^This.
Reading the OP material, it just seemed like each one of them was tripping over themselves to explain what blender THEY had, and of course, dropping the price that they paid.
One wonders if any of the primitives in the "Working Poor" section of the DUmp have ever wandered into the C&B forum by mistake, and been appalled.
Maybe they should, so they can "poorsplain" to us what they see.
[edit]
A perfect example of primitive name/product/price dropping. You guys should really make an effort to not make it this obvious:

Yes.
I have a vitamix that is probally about 20 years old. It works great for making salsa, sauces, etc. Vitamix is like a food processor and blender in one. It also works really good for smoothies and other things requiring ice blended in, such as a fancy frapachino. The commercial versions are awesome and can quickly blend a batch of fruit and ice in seconds into a slush like consistency.
I also have a lower priced Ninja blender that does a pretty good job, but the blades are attached to plastic and seem to not be working as well. The ninja pitcher, lid and blades are dishwasher safe, so it makes clean up a breeze.
