About the new rules
No bigotry/insensitivity
Members are expected to respect diversity and demonstrate an appropriate level of sensitivity when discussing related topics. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, or other forms of bigoted intolerance are not permitted.
Happy to see the rules back!
But I wonder if you would consider tweaking this a little bit, to include all forms of insults to religious belief or unbelief. Not just anti-Semitism and Islamaphobia, but attacks on other religions -- including Catholics and Christians -- and on atheism/agnosticism.
To specifically list anti-Semitism and Islamaphobia without making it clear that this covers all religious affiliations and beliefs will be interpreted by many as allowing those attacks.
If bigotry and hatred towards God and Christians was not allowed then the entire cesspool of the DUmp would close.

1. I think people understand that the list is not comprehensive.
The "why we have this rule" section makes clear the intent.

Why we have this rule: Democratic Underground is a diverse community which includes people of every race, sex, religious belief (or lack thereof), sexual orientation, gender identity, body type, disability, age, etc. We want to promote a welcoming atmosphere for all of our members, and do not want to provide a platform for bigotry.
Or..."Don`t ask me tough questions."

2. Isn't this the same rule we used to have? Because slurs directed at Catholics
and Christians have always been very common here. And people have justified them by the fact that Christians are the majority here, so that supposedly makes it okay.
So I think many people would see this rule and decide it doesn't apply to Christians -- as they have in the past.
Yeah,no shit, you think that was an accident?

Normal people would but the goons that live on your board are not that smart. These are the same type of people that need warning labels telling them that coffee may be hot and not to drink Drano.

Yup. That which is not explicitly forbidden is allowed.

Oh, sure! :lmao: ::)
People will understand it's not comprehensive, so why waste a couple extra words indicating that anti-Christian sentiments are forbidden?

Christian-Bashers and their revilings are part of DU's core. With the prospect of losing a good number more Berniebots, I don't think Skinner & staff are going to risk losing more core members and content. This rule about bigotry and intolerance isn't new, which means the Christian-Bashers' revilings that were tolerated will continue to be tolerated.
That's fine with me. It's Skinner's board, and DU is useful to me (& us, I assume) to point out where Prog ideas lead, and the character of many mainstream Progs.

I felt it rather poignant to bring this up today. I haven't rowed over the Island yet, but one can only imagine what's going on today.

I think we all know that White people (males in particular), and Christians are perfectly acceptable to be hated on by the left.
