How can progressives help steer African Americans away from religion?
Should we even try?
Are we helping people escape the negative effects of religion, or are we being "benevolent racists" if we continue to publically and venomously attack beliefs that are dear to already oppressed people?
The sad Cincinnati tragedy is the latest situation where African American religious beliefs have come into conflict with white progressive anti-religious sentiment. And it is a conflict for me personally. Do I say anything anti-religious to people I love? How far can we push it before we alienate the most important and faithful Democrats in the United States of America?
Those silly negroes, going against the wishes of self-hating white sophisticates! (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027868548)
Wow, they actually said it.
This is going to get deleted, but I saw it first.

Liberals are the most intolerant bigoted people I know.

Actually, the thread's still there and going strong.
Kudos to the primitive who posed the original topic, for hanging around to engage his audience.
But anyway, hardly any primitive's supporting him.

I suspect the first post there was intended to show how offensive most of DU had unintentionally been regarding the zoo thing - but nobody replying was able to pick up on it; they all took it at face value.

When you see yourself as god it is hard to share the stage.

They just love revealing themselves as the true bigots.
It does, however, bring up an interesting paradox of sorts: African- AMericans, in terms of who they vote for, tend to vote almost exclusively for Democratic candidates, yet in terms of their positions on social issues (i.e. gay marriage, drug legalization) tend to be pretty conservative.

Houston, we have the working definition of a stupid, yet smug and self-important DUmmy here:

9. Shame on me for a lot of things.
I wish being a flawless person was easier.
It seems SO freaking easy for so many others. Alas, I have a bad habit of trying to see the world omni-directionally, so the moral questions that are so easy for others are a major challenge to me.

"Trying to see the world omni-directionally"?
Shit, DUmmy. You have to call 911 to tie your shoes. Leave the world to the grownups.

Always the first people to shit up "God's Kingdom" and not give a **** about it.
I'm adding a link to the article featuring the image of her Facebook post (so as to avoid an alert) with zero mention of the animal of course. You can proceed with you "LEAVE RELIGION ALONE!!!" nonsense if you please.

1. Memo to Mommy: The same God
you profess to believe in also made that gorilla, and he probably didn't have in mind that the gorilla be in a ****ing cage.
Probably your kid had had enough of your bourgeois crap and wanted to try a Tarzan-like escape. He didn't quite make it this time, but next time....

138. And the same god she credits with saving the baby
is who allowed the child to fall in.
If I were god, and knew every time a sparrow fell, i would have certainly kept that child out of the gorilla pen.

174. Seems like it would be the logical thing, yes.
If the choice was, let the child fall into the enclosure or NOT let him fall in, why not take NOT fall in?
Had most of us been asked, I think we'd have picked NOT fall in.

4. You'd think maybe that someone so in touch with God could have stopped for a second....
....and even expressed a shred of contrition for the shit their little spawn caused upon one of the Lord's creatures.
Nope. It's all about them.
What a bunch of hate filled vermin.

The problem is that this is not the first time DU has bemoaned the quaint religious preferences of negro persons. Anyone who was around when CA Prop 8 was voted upon will recall how the DUmmies waved their fists at the negro persons who dared vote YES on religious grounds. The unspoken Dem message to black folk is: "Hey ni**er, we're working hard to get you your welfare checks, so the least you can do in return is quit your bullshit religious practices."
The thread is not going so well for the moron (who was trying to be ironic) exactly because it is utterly and completely true, thus wringing from it any notion of satire whatsoever.
Another facet of the debacle is that DUmmies, to a man, assumed that the child and family in question was white. When the opposite turned out to be true, they had to redirect their ire lest they be seen critiquing a negro person on a Dem message board. The redirection of that ire found purchase when the family in question turned out to be religious.
Lurking DUmmies, that odd emotion you are experiencing right now comes from the denial portion of your brains gathering its muster to do battle with the truth part of your brains.

Any word on helping Arabs escape Islam?

To see where the hatred of Christianity comes from, you just have to look at the racist roots of democrats.
A large part of the Abolitionist Movement prior to the Civil War was northern republican Christians.

Bullshit. If you were god you'd be too busy killing babies and trying to convince people that entering in an exit is nice and normal.

Ok,
I'll bite. A loving god wouldn't let people get hurt and suffer, right?
Would you also say that not letting a child use their own free will is being a bad parent?

I am not familiar with this dummie. What we have just might be some pretty effective moling.
Let's break it down:
Dummie opens up with the two favorite topics of the dump: Religion and blacks. That gets the dummies attention right off the bat. Dummies love them some black folks and love to hate religion. Then poses the question of should we even try. Now that is guaran-damn-teed to get the dummies jibber jabbering. The he/she slaps the dummies upside the head and praises them in the same sentence. Dummies asks (praise) if they should help the poor black escape the religion crutch and then asks (damns) by saying are we racists? Tempers it by saying benevolent and then goes on to damn by saying the dummies attack beliefs and tempers it by saying oppressed.
Impressive!!!!
Goes back to slapping the dummies with black religion preferences are in conflict with white liberals. Then tempers it by saying it feels guilty...dummies love them some white guilt... and the dummie loves "these" people.
Again impressive.
Slaps the dummies again by saying they are alienating the blacks and then throws the love by saying the blacks are loyal democrats.
Once again, impressive.
All in all if this is not a mole, then the dummie has stumbled on to an impressively effective method to mole at the dump. I suspect mole myself cause dummies ain't that smart. Hell I ain't smart enough to pull off what this dummie/mole has.
