Colorado nuns get higher fence to avoid harassment
By Keith Coffman
April 22, 2016
DENVER (Reuters) - An order of cloistered Roman Catholic nuns won approval from a Denver suburb to build a higher fence to prevent people from entering their property to harass them, the Sisters' advocate said on Friday.
The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Colorado asked the city of Littleton to add two feet to a six-foot fence after several incidents in the last two years of people scaling the walls and trespassing on the monastery grounds, said Mike Kisting, who made the request on behalf of the Sisters.
In one instance, a man clambered over the fence onto the 13-acre property, which the order has owned since 1947, and chased one of the nuns who had to flee and seek refuge inside a building, Kisting said.
"I can't fathom why a person would want to do that," said Kisting, the founder of a Catholic hospice, who volunteers to help the nuns. "He was lucky I wasn't there that day."

6. Wonder what the taxes might have been on a 13 acre property in Denver.
It sounds like the sisters require city services to protect them, but don't contribute to the tax base.

11. That's the problem.
I believe, that unlike most other tax exempt entities, churches are also exempt from reporting where their money comes from or how it is spent. This exemption also applies to some other organization that might surprise you. It did me.

13. If the Catholic church can afford millions in settlements to victims of pedophile priests,
surely it can cough up a few bucks for the cloistered few who must think they have a hotline to the Almighty.

17. Other than leech off the taxpayers? No and I'm not all that interested.
Religious organizations should be paying taxes - local, state and federal.

Oh my God.
Judy grasswire's pal the vindictive primitive, "Vinca," a notorious re-seller of thrift-store junk who lives in Vermont, is more vile of a person than I'd thought she was.
I have no idea what she so maliciously has against nuns.
It was the vindictive primitive, now about 70 years old, maybe a little older (Judy's generation), who during the 1960s and 1970s worked in some office clerical position for an abortion profiteer. Maybe she was an "office technician," like the WillyT primitive, the now-exiled leader of the Bernie bullies.
One day someone in the office expressed curiosity about what an aborted infant looked like--as these were office personnel, remember, not nursing--and so the next time one came up, their boss put it on a platter and had it passed around in the office for a looking-at.
This was in one of the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive's threads trying to excuse her own abortion--maybe about five years ago--and the vindictive primitive commented, "I dunno why abortion bothers anybody; it didn't even look human to me."
Some people really belong in the deepest crevices of Hell, and the vindictive primitive, among all the primitives, is my #3 choice.

If you set your standards low enough, you're never disappointed. :)

This primitive is long overdue for a spot in the DOTY runnings.
Whenever I see her name in a thread, I will almost always read it. She's vile.

Oh man.
She's vile, she's beyond vile, and deserves not the merest kind act or word from anyone human.

Ummmm ... does this DU-member realize the all the nuns asked of the City of Littleton was a zoning ordinance variance to build their fence 2 feet higher? As for their tax exempt status, that status includes all manner of non-profits - service clubs like the Lions or Rotary, food banks, even Planned Parenthood - not just religious groups. So what "Vinca" advocates is anti-religious discrimination, a violation of the First Amendment.
The way things are going, she may get her way in that respect.
