AUSTIN - Whole Foods, Inc. is fighting back with legal action and security video it says contradicts an Austin pastor’s claim that he received a cake from the company's flagship store Downtown that had a gay slur on it.
"For me, it was humiliating," Jordan Brown said Monday in a news conference as he held back tears.
The openly gay pastor said he ordered a cake with the phrase "Love Wins" on it last Thursday and instead got a cake with the message and an additional slur.
This sounds like a hoax about the Jordan Brown's claim.

I smelled a rat with this one.
One only has to look at the cake to tell. The word fag is not as perfect as the wording on the top. He only checked the cake "much later". I've ordered cakes and have always been asked to check before taking it to the register. Also the letter is situated nicely along the top giving him a perfect blank space to write in fag after the fact.
My guess is he is just another queer trying to cause a stink where there is none or he was looking for a payday.

To be honest, I'm kind of glad this was tried on a Prog pop-culture icon, and that the employee who worked on the cake is a member of the relevant PC "community". I loath false accusers, but the irony in this is delicious, and may have the salutary effect of making Libs & Progs more careful about reflexively believing hate-crime stories.
Has this been posted/discussed on DU yet. It could yield some really entertaining ideological tap-dancing.

The pastor at the center ofa legal fight with Whole Foodsover a cake with an anti-gay slur written on it is already embroiled in a separate lawsuit that accuses Jordan Brown of defaulting on about $27,000 in student loans.
Brown, a gay pastor at the Church of Open Doors in Austin,filed a lawsuit on Monday against Whole Foods, accusing the Austin-based grocery chain of writing an anti-gay slur on a cake he ordered from the flagship store on Lamar Boulevard earlier this month. The suit, filed by Brown’s attorney Austin Kaplan, requests a jury trial and seeks unspecified damages and monetary relief for mental anguish, court costs and other expenses.
Whole Foods on Tuesday filed a countersuit against Brown, saying store officials investigated Brown’s allegation and determined that he made fraudulent claims.

Going by the timings indicated in the OP article, it looks like the lavender "pastor" filed suit on Monday. I'm guessing his thought was, they're a big corporation, they can afford it, and they'll just pay me a couple $100K to buy legal peace. Easy $$, student loan paid, with several months' rent (and :stoner: ?) to spare. Then Whole Paycheck didn't play the game as he planned it for them ...

The Texas pastor who sued Whole Foods in April for allegedly writing a gay slur on a cake he bought withdrew his lawsuit on Monday and apologized to the supermarket chain for perpetrating a hoax, KVUE reported.
"The company did nothing wrong," openly gay pastor Jordan Brown wrote in a Monday statement. "I was wrong to pursue this matter and use the media to perpetuate this story."
Brown said in April that he requested a cake from Whole Foods with the phrase “Love Wins†written on it, but when he received his cake there was a homophobic remark added. Brown made the accusation in an Internet video and launched a lawsuit shortly thereafter.
I knew it all along. It was a hoax! BUSTED!

Of course it was a hoax, just like 99.99% of the alleged hate crimes are. He only apologizes because he is hoping Whole Foods will drop their countersuit.
