Title: Racists? nah......
Post by: dutch508 on April 12, 2016, 12:18:34 PM
Hillary trying to be funny and spontaneous =  fails on so many levels.

3. It should have been so obvious that the "joke" (which wasn't funny on any level) had racist implications despite what the participants in the skit may have intended. It's just dumb to tell jokes or stories that can be interpreted as racist, no matter what you claim you might have meant by them. This wan't on the same level as the joke that forced Earl Butz, the Secretary of Agriculture in the early '70s, to resign (if you don't know that story, just google him; that "joke" was overtly racist and horrifically offensive), but it was tone-deaf and dumb. You have to wonder how people can miss the implications and possible interpretations of some of the things they say.

8. The audience reacted with laughs and applause to Hillary's line

It was actually one of the warmer reactions from the audience to the entire skit. De Blasio rapping, for example, appeared to be met with stunned silence.

10. It was painful. First silence and moans, a giggle or two, then lightened up only a little. As a whole, I think the audience was stunned but trying to be nice. And Hillary's line was less offensive, but what the hell were they thinking?

16. That's not true at all

The whole point of the bit is designed this way.

De Blasio says something that seems offensive - the audience reacts accordingly.

The Aaron Burr character does a take to the audience and says "I don't like jokes like that" - the audience laughs.

Clinton says "Cautious Politician Time" - the audience laughs some more and applauds a bit.

This is sort of a standard sitcom joke structure.

26. That's not what the joke was

At no point did anyone utter the phrase "colored people".

The joke (such as it is) is based on thinking he meant one thing and then "humorously" finding out that he meant something else.

Like a skit where someone says "I can't believe he called me the n-word!" and everyone offers their sympathy and anger but it turns out she means "nincompoop".

The part of the skit that seemed much more racially insensitive happens before Hillary's cameo where De Blasio is rapping.

Have you watched the whole thing?

Clinton says it: "people are making a big deal of nothing. It was a joke. People don't get it/didn't listen/taking it out of context. More right-wing nonsense and conspiracies trying to attack and prevent Hillary from being the first women president. Berniebros are desperate for anything. That joke was written by Bernie, it's his fault. Remember Bernie wants to destroy our nation by giving everyone free stuff."

Sanders says it: "more racist, sexist, tone deaf crap from Bernie and his berniebros. This campaign is a failure, such racist crap. Bernie hates women and people of color and will put them all in jail/revoke all gun laws/make right-wing hate groups national police/commie re-education camps/give poor people free stuff/bankrupt our nation giving away free stuff."

This is the sum of their reaction. The hate for Sanders on this site from certain groups is so awkward at this point , I really feel like I am on a right-wing wingnut blog like freeperville as the comments are identical ( the "free stuff" and "socialist" memes being the most blatant).

How many press conferences and speeches has Obama actually started on time, even when it was one that he scheduled?  :whistling:

That has more with him being a SCFOAMF than being black.

None. Zero. Zip.  I had never heard of CPT before. Why are democrats so racist and sexist?

You're right, I think it's just another way that he shows his contempt for everyone around him.

I've never heard of it either. Hell, they show the lines for new housing vouchers or welfare benefits, it seems like they are always there waiting in line before the doors open.  :-)

Never heard of it either. Some one with a bit of creativity could probably troll/mole DU-folk into believing that "CPR" is racist or cultural appropriation.

And in typical Clintonian fashion...she's putting all the blame on someone else.  Namely DeCommio.

They also had no problem with the cultural appropriation of the white mayor rapping.
