My wife is going to finally retire in a few months. That means we have time on our hands and want to do a "little" traveling in the next few years or so.
She and I have been to Hawaii and she wants to go back but I want to see different places.
Texas comes to mind. I have read so much on CC about Texas, so what is so great about Texas ?
I currently live in a blue to purple state so I want to stay away from a bunch of libs if I can.
Any suggestions of some "Conservative" "God's country" places in Texas ? (I don't want to spring for any body guards......so Places away from the border :whistling:.)

I like Texas. Lots of friendly people.
The best by-God Mexican food I ever et was in Hereford. I really enjoyed El Paso/Ft Bliss, and San Antonio/Ft Sam Houston.
Skul and Texacon live in Texas, as do our old friends IASSAFTOTS and Beirsmythe. Legend has it that a couple of cute gals live down in Austin. All good reasons to like Texas!

I don't live in Texas, but I've visited a couple of times.
Pros: Lots of room to spread out, low cost of living, cheap real estate (as long as you don't mind the commute). Best State Fair in the country.
Cons: Long driving distances, hot as ****. Don't expect to find 93 octane everywhere you go (that only applies if you're driving a 1973 MG B through Tyler).

People try, but I don't think Texas can really be generalized. Our landscapes, people, climates, etc. are fairly diverse. You can find just about anything you're looking for.
Everything outside of the major metropolitan areas has a pleasant red hue.
