Ghost in the Machine (14,642 posts)

Can anyone please help a fellow DUer (me) who is going through a very difficult time right now?

**** I emailed Skinner to ask if we still needed his permission first before posting a fund raiser, but still haven't gotten a reply. However, I did some digging in the ATA forum and found this: "Skinner (61,399 posts)

********************************************************************************************

I posted about it here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027721521 ... along with a Poll over which would be the best platform to use. The Poll only got 7 votes, but they were 100% for gofundme.com.

I finally talked myself into setting up an account Wednesday morning, and when I went to preview my campaign I got a pop-up stating that {paraphrasing} 'due to the content of your post, your campaign has been temporarily suspended due to a possible TOS violation. Please give our staff time to review it and we will let you know. This can take up to 3 business days." Then it had a link to the TOS, which said {paraphrasing again} 'No fund raising for legal matters or support for criminal activity'.

Their advice on creating the campaign was to be "open, honest, transparent & from the heart". I was flabberghasted, and could only think to myself "yeah, that's MY luck.. and when it rains, it POURS!" I figured that the problem was because I posted this: " about 3 1/2 weeks ago, I talked to my friend and told him that I had the money to get the CV axel and he said he was out of town, but would be home that Saturday and would call me & come get me so we could work on it. I never saw or heard from him. Last week, I found out that he was in jail for a probation violation.", and it raised a flag with them thinking that I was trying to raise money for legal defense or something.

I went to my parents' house and told them about what had happened, and said "hopefully they will read it and understand that I am NOT trying to raise money for him, but to help me get a vehicle". I was quite surprised a few hours later when I got an email from them stating that they had reviewed it, and that I was fine and could go ahead with my campaign.

I posted it to Facebook, and have received one donation so far, and have gotten a couple of texts from local friends who said that they would come by when they got paid and give me some money. When they do, I will add it to the "add offline donations" link on my gofundme page.

If anyone can find it in their hearts to help, it would be greatly appreciated, and WILL be paid forward when I get back on my feet again. For purposes of transparency, here is the link to my Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/douglas.a.davis.7/posts/10209862070135452 .... and here is a link to my gofundme page: https://www.gofundme.com/4mwmb44s

Thank you in advance for any and all help you can give, even if it is nothing more than keeping this post kicked, some kind words of encouragement or sharing this post.

Peace within, Peace between, Peace among....

Okay, now I'm confused.  Considerably.

I thought the ghost in the machine was the primitive once known as the BennyBoy primitive.

But it appears this is a different primitive; the only thing he has in common with the BennyBoy primitive is that both are squalidly, grotesquely, fat.

^ Yep, this has tripped me up again just this week. Thing is, at the DUmp, there is a poster named "ghost in the machine":

and there's a "ghostsinthemachine":

Okay, as usual the primitives think they can pull the wool over our eyes.

The primitives need to think again; when we're fooled, it's only for a very short time.

And here we have yet another Dummie that cannot seem to be able to fund a car repair.  :thatsright:

Look dummie, your ilk runs around and calls us knuckle dragging idiots... yet we always seem to be able to keep ourselves clothed, housed, fed and still have money left over to take care of little emergencies like a repair to a vehicle without resorting to begging.

Care to come over and explain to us why you are a superior life form?

I would like to know if a kick and best wishes is better than receiving some Dummy vibes as far as getting money to pay for car repairs?

That is a good question and I will have to think about it.

OK, thought about it, the exchange rate is zero.

And he's raised $675 so far, which is $675 more than insurance magnate Randy Shaw has collected.

Speaking of which, unless he got yet another DU handle, Randy is gone from DU.

broken CV "axel"

The word "joint" is a reserved one on DU, much the same way that certain words are reserved in computer languages.

Still can't figure out how they're superior to us. I make $16 an hour yet I can afford a car payment, rent and I'm picking up a Harley next month. But this evolved and enlightened dork of a liberal is begging spare change for a car repair?

Well, he seems to have gotten mired down at $685, well short of his goal of $2500.

One wonders why that is; perhaps too many potential donors saw his self-posted photograph showing him out fishing in a luxury boat and wearing brand-new name-brand sports clothes.....and decided, "hey, this guy plays better and dresses better than I do; he don't need none of my money."

Remember stewert?

stew was a great DUmmy who gave up a career in unemployment to move in and live with his elderly, feeble father. He and his father became closer than any father and son you've ever known.

The old man was deeply grateful for stewie's sacrifices, so much so that after his death stew discovered the old man had changed his will to give everything he owned to stewie's evil brother. The evil brother proceeded to give stew an eviction notice, leaving him homeless.

There were many begging threads on the Dump from stew as his battle with his brother proceeded. Through it all, stew fought off any incllination he may have had to seek employment, preferring to leave his fate in the generous hands of his DUmpmates.

Last we heard, the DUmp had lost patience, and stewert had lost his fight against eviction.

Which reminds me, whatever happened to the unemployed stripper who was fighting her landlord, with pictures of the horrible condition of her house? She had a big stupid dog that was so, so sweet except for a habit of attacking and biting people.

I've actually donated money to dummies before... 3 times over the past few years. I saw what were some legitimate calls for help because of medical issues and gave them each 100 bucks. Did I get scammed? Likelihood is probably 50/50. But I felt it was the right thing to do regardless... I do it anonymously, but always make sure to let them know I'm one of the conservative lurkers that they hate when I do it. Not a single one has ever responded or thanked me (via dummy mail). I like being charitable (although most of my donations go to the Wheeler mission here in town). Looking at this guy though, I get the hint that he is already bilking the taxpayers via some pseudo-disability. I can't prove that, but I smell it.

Please understand that I am not putting you down for giving to the dummies in their hour of need.  Having said that, dummies lie. All the time dummie lie.  99.999999 percent of the dummies problems, medical or otherwise, can be directly traced back to their piss poor attitude, planning, lack of work ethic, lifestyle and general selfishness.  A dummie would not piss on you if you were on fire and they had drank a case of beer. They will take your money, all your possessions, sell your wife and children to ISIS as slaves and generally do whatever else they can get away with....  not think one damn second about it.... and blame you because they did it.    Hell they pretty much do that to their own families now!  You would be better to donate your money to the local homeless shelter.

Dummies are the lowest form of life on the earth. Like cockroaches, they will always survive no matter how bad the environment they find themselves in.   And like cockroaches, if left unchecked they will take over and ruin their environment and move on to the next.

No offense taken, believe it or not I agree with your assessment. I'm a refugee from another site that has been flooded with Trump/Cruz bickering so badly, that after 10 years, I decided it was time to move on. I'm one of the vile freepers (on hiatus I should say) the DUmmines just love to despise. And I know the other side of this all too well. DUmmies are expert liars, it's most apparent in a lot of their posts regarding so-called personal experiences. Those are the ones I chuckle at the most. You know the ones... "My republican relative was over today and I destroyed him in debate" , or "The mini-mart guy was a racist because he blabla and I stood up for all the black people in the store". You've seen the hundreds of BS stories they post.
So, I know what I'm dealing with and I'm fully aware that there is an undetermined probability that my 100 bucks was used to buy a bag of Bernie weed in every case. But, look at it this way... I'm the better man. I can see past their ignorance and intolerance and I prove it to them... by putting my money where my mouth is. And as I said before, I let them know they just accepted a gracious gesture from "one of those guys". The psychological damage and confusion could potentially cause to a DUmmie is priceless. I mean, we are supposed to hate women, blacks and poor people; we are selfish, self-centered and care for no one but ourselves. Right? Then they get a donation that is bigger than their weekly food stamp allowance from one.
I sleep well at night... and yes, unlike most people, I openly admit that I donate to charities and other people for not just one reason. Of course it is to help them out, that's the primary goal. But a second, and just as equally important reason is the feeling I get from doing it. I've never donated a single penny with my name on it, I don't want recognition from anyone but myself. Some would call me out on it, the difference is I admit to it. We all do good because it makes us feel better when we do.
But anyway, I don't make a regular habit of it... my donations do a lot more good when they go to my immediate family who are struggling (and NONE of them are liberals). Oh, and although my family is where most of my donations of charity end up, the local homeless shelter IS my main destination for spare funds. I contribute as much as I can to the Wheeler mission here in Indianapolis and a few privately run hideouts for battered women. I'm also making it sound like I donate huge amounts of money because of the context, but I don't. I'd say most likely I don't give away much more than the average person.
