'Gunshots' at US Capitol in Washington
Gunshots have been reported at the visitor centre at the US Capitol in Washington and workers have been told to take shelter.
The Capitol's Sergeant-At-Arms said the gunman has been caught and one police officer was wounded.
The Capitol building is on lockdown due to the potential security threat, according to an email sent to congressional staffers.

I wonder how many of DU's hoplophobic gun-grabbers are going to dive into the standard-issue, reliably false, claim that it had to be a right-wing Fundie gun-nut.
Might be at least a day two of :popcorn: in this news story ... maybe more if the guy attended a parochial school or lived within a half mile of a Fundie Mega-Bogey-Church.

From what I've been seeing on the 'net, apparently the perp is a long-known-nutter who has expressed an affinity for Trump. The story at this point is that the guy tried to enter the Capitol carrying a gun, set off the metal detector, drew, and was shot by a security guard. I don't know how sensitive the metal detectors in the Capitol are, but the detectors at the State Department passport office in SF in the late 90s were so sensitive that even after I removed everything metal from me except the zipper of my pants I still set it off (the filling and crowns in my teeth???). So trying to sneak a gun into the Capitol was either insanity or attempted suicide by cop (last I read, the guy was in surgery).

So the shooting at the WH Visitor center "co-incided" with a real shooting.....interesting.
An active shooter drill took place at the U.S. Capitol on Monday morning, and an email sent early in the morning about the drill initially caused confusion among staffers after reports of shots in the visitor center later in the afternoon. The drill and this reported shooting are separate events. -

The guy's a "Trump supporter", but is black and a known loon. Doesn't fit the Right-Wing Fundie Gun-Nut narrative.
The guy's black and was shot by Capitol Police, but is a known loon and security footage will show he was caught trying to sneak in a gun, and drew when confronted. Doesn't fit the Police Shooting Black Males narrative.
Nothing to see here ... move on ... to the next potentially exploitable incident.

I dunno, fb, I'm enjoying the opportunity to mock another round of hoplophobic Prog conclusion-jumping being crushed by reality. In this case that happened disappointingly early - the hoplophobes hardly had a chance to get their speculation gin warmed up.
Looking over the guy's church's website, it does exist, and he is named as the pastor. It sounds vaguely Pentecostal/Holiness (though the pastor is pictured wearing clerical robes, not exactly Pentecostal or Holiness culture), with an emphasis on social-community service/work, including through government mandates. It has services twice a month, and the page says "call for location". Start-up churches are forced to be flexible and resourceful, but this guy's church sounds marginal, if not dubious.
But, assuming it is real, it's the kind of church Progs should love - emphasizing community service including by government mandate (including a $15/hr. minimum wage, one of Progs' causes-of-the-month). So if DU-folk are trying to make something of the guy being a pastor, it's blue-on-blue.
