Voter ID horror story: NC poll workers forced brown-skinned couple to take a ‘spelling test’

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027703322

Horrors of horrors. He was asked to spell his full name!!! OMG who should be required to do that when voting?

Oh wait. It happened to me last Tuesday. My name was not on the list, and I was asked to spell it so it could be checked on the computer.

8. That's the rules now in the ole North State...

...the poll worker at my precinct took my license and then made me state my street address, city and zip. She apologized for having to ask. Had I been of minority descent, she may not have been as cordial, even in my ultra polite county. It stinks and we're embarrassed. My condolences to Rudravajhala. The majority of North Carolinians do not approve of what the morons in Raleigh have been up to. But they need to show up at the damn polls even in off year elections and put and end to this shit.
They do this in WI as well. They are making sure your information matches the DL/ID and the voter rolls (which they then mark to show you voted). That also shows if you voted already.

The practice in CA is that they have check-off lists for each precinct, and voters write their addresses and sign their names on a log. I've been doing this for decades without realizing how racist it is to ask people to spell their names and street names! Not to mention the voter suppression that results from checking off voters ... I can only vote once!

I'm so sorry, Thundley, for the trauma you experienced.  Hope you're feeling better.

<Raw Story article, end snip>
Ravindra added: “My wife and I couldn’t help but feel that we were singled out. The poll workers could have simply looked at our IDs and saved a lot of time. That in a sea of white faces at both polling stations my wife and I were the only brown-skinned individuals also led us to suspect that we were victims of racial prejudice. In these days of Trumpism and shameless xenophobia and other assorted phobias, we can’t be blamed if we are paranoid.”

After this entire saga ended for both Ravindra and his wife, he called the state Board of Elections to lodge a complaint. The director apologized and confirmed to him that poll workers only have to look at the photo ID — there was no necessity for him to have to spell out his name.

What a whiny asshole.  Just spell your name!  It's your own damn name, isn't it?  Isn't it?

Only one DUmmie didn't faint dead away:

49. Asking someone to spell their name is neither a horror

or voter suppression.

Get a grip.

54. That guy would not have gotten away with it with me.

I would have spelled it F U C K Y O U and then called the police. If you think the police can't do anything when your right to vote is being denied I would think twice. Think I would call the FBI to while spelling the above.

The police would spell out in full the acronym, AYFKM. OTOH calling the FBI would land this DU-fool in Automated Answering System Heck.

So, here is a true story about voting in NC last week. I went to my polling place, which was an elementary school. The poll was set up in the library. Now, keep in mind that March is Women's History Month, so this library had various books about women throughout history (Rosa Parks, Molly Pitcher, Rachel Carson (retch)) prominently displayed. One of the displayed books was about Hillary, placed right behind the table that you get your ballot from. I mention it to one poll worker that it should not be there, since she is a candidate on the ballot. That poll worker goes over and puts it face down. Another worker goes over and stands it back up. I just shook my head and laughed and my wife tweeted it to the county board of elections as we were leaving.

The cops would have laughed in your face, dummie.  Then when you started screaming and making a scene they would have locked you up. After you made bail you would be on DU telling a bouncy about how your rights were violated by the racist cops.
The long and the short of it dummie is this:  You would have spelled out your name when asked.  You know it, I know it, the whole world knows it.  Now go crawl back into your safety hole.
