It seems Trump has cost me a friend
We were friends in real life 25+ years ago. We ate dinner at each others houses, our wives were friends, we worked together at a large boat manufacturer. Hell, he came over and poured the concrete slab and helped me build a shed in the back yard that still stands today. (I can promise you had he not helped it would be a jumbled pile of rust and rat shit today). For free. Well, some sweet tea every hour or so but we had that in abundance back then.
But things change. I got laid off from the boat place after the Reagan luxury tax cut pretty deep into the yacht business. (what? Reagan taxed stuff? You wouldn't know it by today's memories.) He got a divorce and we saw less and less of either of them and then I heard he moved to North Carolina.
After a couple years of trying, I found him on the Facebooks last year and friend requested him. He accepted but other than the very first "Hey, long time no see, blah blah..." message we didn't interact. But his posts kept popping up on my timeline. It was pretty clear right from the start my friend had changed (or I was just more aware - Meaning we didn't really discuss religion or politics much back then. We discussed work and music and food. We went to RC Car races and he built a red clay track in his back yard so we could have people over and race even more. He must have gotten religion up in NC. Because he damn sure wasn't religious down here.). His posts were all about Obama and getting him out of office and then, lately, they have all been about how Trump is the savior of the universe.
It was one of those deals where you just can't believe someone you thought you knew could post such moronic shit. But I never commented on any of his posts. I simply posted stuff on my own timeline that countered the bullshit. I didn't tag him or go out of my way to make him aware nor hide it. I figured I'd see if he was reading anything I posted.
This morning I thought, Hmmmm, haven't seen any weird shit from L**** in a while so I checked. Yep, I been defriended.
Oh well. I miss the old L**** but the new one holds little appeal.

I was "Un-Friended" some years ago by a very Lib/Prog friend from the late 70s. In the 30+ years since we'd last seen each other she had decided she was a lesbian. Don't know why she "Un-Friended" me, not bothered by it, didn't make a thread about it on a discussion forum.
I've been laid off from jobs 5 times since the first in 1993. I have no problem remembering the years and who was President at the time. Either this guy was chemically impaired when he concocted that :bouncy: or was "embellishing" (= a lie to get DU-cred). Either one works for me.
FWIW, that breaking of his, "Read my lips .." pledge (primarily) plus MSM lying about the state of the economy in 1992 cost GHWB a second term.

He lost a second term due to the dimwits who elected Clinton by voting for Ross Perot, a civilized version of Trump.

Oversimplifying, voting for Perot (or refraining from voting for anyone for POTUS) was how many expressed their ire at GHWB's broken promise. So I don't at all differ with your comment - Perot substituted eye-crossing and sleep-inducing flip charts for Trump's crudity and demagoguery.

It may be just my personal style, but I seldom post politics-oriented stuff on FB. I think the number of my Lib-Prog FB Friends who do well outnumber my conservative FB Friends who do, despite my having many more conservative FB Friends.

I was one of those dimwits that voted for a guy that challenged the GOPe after a GOPe president that almost beat Reagan lied to me and was only a democrat lite. I'll vote Trump for the same reason. Having the donks drive us over the cliff at 90 or the GOPe only going 75 is not a real choice.
