A more important question is how does the lenders allow him to get that much in debt with what on the surface appears to be no collateral?

They see him as having a money-printing-machine career. They somehow haven't (or hadn't?) figured out that he, personally, is a money-wasting machine. And he lives in a world where ego, attitude, mouth, and jealousy can get the money-printing machine's plug pulled permanently.
