Grew up in Germany. Went to college for free and always had health care.
Currently my health care costs are... I don't even know or care. It is a fraction of my income that I never see or worry about. It has never been so much as that I felt like it was hurting. I have a chip card that I show whenever I go to a doctor and that is the end of my involvement with the financial aspect of it.
Can't imagine living under the American system. My American grandma just told me the other day that her husband, who is on medicare, had to borrow money to pay for a hospital bill. Apparently his plan didn't cover all of his bills. I think that is just nuts.
The German system works great. Can't imagine going into debt just to get an education. That's just crazy.
All I can say is that people who claim that free college and affordable universal health care is not possible are either lying or clueless.
Good. Import some of these damn DUmmies with you. Let them get a taste of what it's like to actually, you know, live there. They can claim to be refugees and get all kinds of free stuff, courtesy of your wallet.

1. Why did you leave Germany
The scenery is much better there.
The beer too.
You've never seen the Shenandoah Valley, have you?

3. I'm still there.
Good, stay there.

5. what were your admission standards for college
and when was the decision made that you could go to college?
redgreenandblue (1,614 posts)
8. Easy: Since I chose physics, there were no admission standards.
For physics, math, etc. usually there are less applicants than positions, thus everyone gets in. It is typically not a subject that people choose randomly.
For other subjects, such as medicine or business administration, they fill the available slots based on graduation score, with a small contingent of slots reserved for social programs. If your score is less than the cutoff, you can wait. Each semester you wait counts as a bonus to your score. People with low scores who want to study a highly sought after field, like medicine, typically go and learn some vocational job that is related to their field and then return after two or so years and start college, using the accumulated bonuses.
As for myself: I wanted to be a physicist since I was twelve.
Great. Someone without the brains can become a doctor if they wait long enough and accumulate enough bonuses. Makes me comfortable.

12. So medicine is a highly sought after career. The doctors must still be able to make a decent
living and be treated well to want to go into the field. Another talking point we hear from the GOP is that doctors in socialized systems don't make enough money.

7. We just returned from a trip to germany
The medical care my hubby received for his heart was outstanding! We hadn't planned on him being hospitalized for two nights and having cardioversion there, but the doctors there were excellent, and the care he recieved was second to none.
We were very impressed.
Good. Go back. Remember, Delta is ready when you are.

10. But, but, but, you must wait YEARS to get into the doctor! And your freedom is denied
every time you go! Or don't go! And your taxes must be so high that you are living on the street, right? I mean, that's what the Republicans tell me.
Seriously, as I understand it, you pay for a basic insurance plan through...taxes? Or is it something you buy outright? Just curious how it works.
redgreenandblue (1,614 posts)
13. It works kind of like a tax. It is progressive in the sense as that it depends on your income.
Welfare recipients don't have to pay.
It shows up in a separate bracket on your income taxes, but at a core, it works like a tax. Your employer subtracts it from your income directly.
As for waiting periods: For routine stuff sometimes a month or two, for emergencies you just go and they have to treat you.
Does that mean EVERYBODY contributes? That won't fly here. DUmmies want their shit for free and don't want to contribute anything.
I sense the DUmmies are about to storm the welfare office. Well, those that aren't on it yet.

23. So the wait is actually better than here.
Routine physicals I generally have to wait a month or more. My kid had recurrent ear infections as a baby/toddler and we had to wait 6 weeks to see a specialist just for an EVALUATION to get ear tubes. An ear drum burst while we were waiting. Our system is NOT better, more free, or anything else. We need single-payer. Do you have a choice of plans or is it a national plan? Thanks for your insider information!
More drivel at the link.

He didn't mention which Germany he grew up in. :whatever:

Guns verses butter.
So Germany pays how much of its own national defense? And if the USA stopped helping Germany and it was all their responsibility.......?
Germany can afford (to some degree) to spend its time giving the citizens butter. If they had to pay for their own guns, completely different story. Libs can't grasp this.

Stop using facts. You'll confuse the delicate flowers.

You really can't say that what works in a country of 80 million will work just as well in a country of 300+ million.

Better then half of Europe is already bankrupt and with a birthrate that can`t sustain labor needs.
Hence it opened the doors thinking that a bunch of able bodied workers would pour in.
Not what they got...Europe as we know it has its days numbered.
It will be an ugly scene as the muzzies continue their jihad,Putin is keeping his eye open for cracks and without a doubt some nationals with ambitions may arise.

I've often wondered why there are SO MANY posters at DU who don't even live in the US.
-
Half of the patients at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston which is well known for orthopedic care, are from countries that have socialized medicine. Canada, England, Germany, France etc. Why is that DUmmie?

You should know by now that no mere fact is ever a match for a DUmmy's opinion.

1. Why did you leave Germany
The scenery is much better there.
The beer too.
The scenery and beer are better if you leave your Mom's basement and go outdoors. Once outdoors, beers from microbreweries and "brew pubs" and medium-sized breweries are easy to find. As for scenery, what's your pleasure? Like Alpine scenery? Go to the Rockies or Sierras. Like verdant valleys with rolling hills? Try the Napa Valleys or Willamette Valley on the West Coast; similarly beautiful places are all around the US. Like sandy beaches and surfing? Not sure whether that can be found on Germany's Baltic Coast. Like groves of redwoods? Or saguaro and organ pipe cacti? Or the Grand Canyon? Sorry, Germany can't help with that.
That said, if lAp wants to move to Germany, I'd support that choice!

I'm calling bullshit on all of this free education shit in Germany. The education is free, but it is also NO JOKE, and they don't give out free educations so you can go study idiotic liberal bullshit for ten years.
For the most part, they tell you what you're good at, and what you can study. And if you suck, and if you're stupid, they send you to school to learn to run a cash register. And that, my dear stupid ****ing asshole lurking DUmmies, is where you'd find yourselves.
As I've said before: fine. Let's pay for secondary education, so long as I can tell liberal shitheads they're not allowed on campus with their BLM bullshit, and if they want a "safe space," they can crawl up Howard Zinn's decomposing asshole. And I DEFINITELY want to be in the room when they tell a black woman they don't teach Supposedly Oppressed Studies in this publicly funded college, and she's not strong enough in math to study anywhere but Cash Register University.
Do some research, dumb****s. Tell me I'm wrong.

Marc the 1%er doesn't want to live around those lazy, stinking proles, any more than good and decent people do.

Michael Moore should have flown to Cuba to get their "world class healthcare" instead of being treated in the 3rd world U.S.
Hypocrite.
