4 Asian High School Students Stand Up to Their White Classmates in an Epic Yearbook Stunt <---- appears absolutely nowhere in the story at all, not even sort of
Now here's a yearbook stunt I can get behind!
https://www.yahoo.com/style/4-asian-high-school-students-185900411.html
You wouldn't ask everyone with the last name Smith if they were related, would you?
Four students sharing the last name Nguyen were evidently so fed up with fielding this question that they joined forces for a combined yearbook quote to get their point across to classmates.
In lieu of a quote or list of extracurriculars was a four-word message spread out below the consecutive portraits:

The stunt echoed an almost identical one eight students at San Jose's Presentation High School — also Nguyens — pulled in 2012. The message that time: "We know what you're thinking, and no, we're not related!"

Of COURSE they're not related. Jeez. Some of them were born to salon workers, and others to dry cleaners. Yet others were born to massage parlor workers. It's racist to assume that they all work on the same shrimp boat. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027586981)
KamaAina, he of the Randy Shaw School of You're Racist And I'm Not Because I Called It First, seeks to inject race into places where it has no business, likely because of his experience with injecting other things into inappropriate places.
When someone tries to call it out, looky what happens:

9. Nice race bait.
The article literally mentioned nothing about standing up to anyone, let alone DU's arch nemesis, WHITE PEOPLE!
Seemed like they did it in good fun. I didn't see the need to turn this into a 'stickin' it to whitey' piece of clickbait.
It's not uncommon to have people wonder if you're related based on a common last name when enrolled at the same school.

"DU's arch nemesis, WHITE PEOPLE! "
Oh dear. You are indeed a poor, oppressed little fella...
"It's not uncommon to have people wonder if you're related based on a common last name when enrolled at the same school..."
Odd that... my last name is Smith and I was never asked if I was related to any others Smiths in my high school. However, they most likely realized the concept of Balance of Probabilities while you don't.
See that? Calling bullshit on bullshit gets you put in the corner.

15. Lotta butthurt on this thread.
Calling bullshit on clickbait is butthurt. Again, someone who used to be intimately familiar with butthurt weighs in:

How can a guy get in on this party? Also, how do you pronounce Nguyen?

I pronounce it, "Numnumnum".

I pronounce it, "Numnumnum".
Note for humor-impaired DUmmy lurkers: no one here advocates molesting underage girls, nor is anyone a racist. But you think we are, so we act in kind.

I'm pretty sure its pronounced 'Winn'

They seem to be a bunch of common-sense, pretty young ladies with a sense of humor. I approve.

Seems to me KA is stereotyping whites. This "white" dude knows:
* Not all with the family name of Smith are related; nor Jones, Brown, Black, etc.;
* Not all with the family name of Nguyen are related; nor Pham;
* Not all with the family name of Garcia are related; nor Rodrigues;
* Not all with the family name of Kim are related; nor Park; nor Lee;
* Not all with the family name of Wong are related; nor Lee; nor Fong;
* Not all with the family name of Schmidt are related.
Just to pick out a few common family names of various ethnic origins.
Unlike KA, I know many "whites" know this. Unlike KA, I also know that everyone learns things a first time, and at different times.

If DUers spent as much time looking for a job as they do looking for racism and anti-racism then the unemployment rate would really be less than 5 percent.

If they are on the basketball team omaha steve is in.

I pronounce it, "Numnumnum".
I believe the proper pronunciation is "gwin", but I could be wrong. Lord knows, I was wrong once back in '92, so I could be wrong now, but I don't believe so.

There's former member from here on Facebook with the same last name as me, and he asked me if we were related. Was he being racist? :rofl:
Why are most people with the names, Washington, Jefferson or White, usually black? But people named Brown or Black, are usually white?

Which proves once again, there ARE no bigger racists than the (D)Ummies.

Odd, my Uncle always call their shore leave a time for focky sucky rope swing.
Maybe these tweens have something else in mind. How much?

I don't know about anyone else, but I pronounce it "Uh-uh". I just don't find them attractive at all, though I never did find younger women attractive. I always preferred them in the 30-40 range, even as a teenager. 1 milfy/cougar type has always been greater in my calculation. Plus they're a hell of a lot less trouble.
But then, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

They're too old, and the wrong sex, for Cole County Bob.

Yeah, and Betty White is white, while Barry White was black. What's up with that?
How about this: Spiderman's Uncle Ben was white, but Uncle Ben on the box of rice is black. The white guy was murdered, while the black guy probably died of Type II diabetes from eating all that rice. WTF, over??!!??!!??
:panic: :panic: :panic:

Late in the '70's when I was in elementary school, there were a lot of legal immigrants who came over from Laos. Why here, who knows? Baccam & Nguyen were the most common last names.
"Winn" or some approximation of such was the correct pronunciation. After being away from here for years, that last name is still common. Good for them.

I have a common last name and have been asked numerous times if I was related to 'X'.
I grew up in the Ozark's in southwest Missouri and I'm often asked if I know 'X'.
I have worked all over this country and I've been asked multiple times if I know 'X'.
I've never found it odd and to be honest sometimes those questions produced some interesting results.
In Hawaii I ran into people I knew from southeast Texas.
In Miami I ran into a guy from Binghamton, NY who was the next door neighbor of a guy I was in the 82nd Airborne with.
There's more, but I won't bore you.
