Was I Wrong?
I hope this is the correct forum, as it is, technically, a current event.
I'm in Kiev right now on business. I needed to go to the front desk on the way back to my room because I need another electrical adapter for my stuff. As I got there, I saw another American absolutely be-freaking-rating this poor front desk lady about some mistake on his bill as he checked out. It seems that he was charged for a cup of tea he either didn't want or didn't order. He was going insane on this lady, who was near tears, threatening her, telling her he'd have her job for this, and then proceeding to pronounce that the 'ignorant commies in this hellhole are laughed at by the rest of the world for this reason.'
I was beyond disgusted, and though I normally stay out of things, I stepped in and asked WTF the problem was. The guy was startled to find another American behind him and said that he was getting 'screwed by these commies' who were 'gouging' him by adding a cup of tea to his bill. This entire situation was all over about 2 bucks American.
He looked at me, as if he expected me to take his side and said, "Can you believe this shit from these people here?"
I looked back and said, "The only thing I can't believe is how you're acting. When people talk about 'ugly Americans' they're talking about you." I reached into my pocket and pulled out 5 bucks American and offered it to him. He got pissed and said I was insulting him. I told him I was giving him a 150 percent return so he ought to take it and just move on. He starts screaming wildly, and security actually had to come and 'help' the guy into his cab on his way to the airport. He never did take the 5 bucks.
I apologized to the lady and told her that Americans think ugly Americans are assholes too, and they aren't only ugly abroad.
So I ask: Should I have kept my nose out of this?
Have any of you seem something like this, and if so, were you like me in that you felt more compelled to step in because you didn't want people from around the world thinking that all Americans were like this?
What a random experience.

Uses "So" to start a sentence, has rent-a-cops jumping out of bushes, give healing light to the poor desk clerk and flusters an obvious "Right Winger". All in all not a bad effort. Clearly trying to boost his DUmp credibility.

Cool story bro!

This story is like accidentally photographing one's new firearm while trying to take a picture of one's cat.
In other words, its not about the encounter described - its about being in Kiev recently, and letting the DUmmies know it.

Ukraine Travel Warning -- Message to U.S. Citizens -- February 21, 2014
The Department of State warns U.S. citizens to defer all non-essential travel to Ukraine due to the ongoing political unrest and violent clashes between police and protestors.
U.S. citizens in Ukraine, and those considering travel to Ukraine, should evaluate their personal security situation in light of the escalating violence, particularly in Kyiv. This replaces the Travel Alert for Ukraine dated February 18, 2014. On February 20, 2014, the Department of State authorized the departure of all family members of U.S. government personnel from Ukraine. While the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv’s Consular Section is open for public services, the Embassy’s ability to respond to emergencies involving U.S. citizens throughout Ukraine is limited.
The Department of State urges U.S. citizens who travel to Ukraine to evaluate carefully the risks posed to their personal safety, particularly in the capital city of Kyiv. Since February 18, there has been a sharp escalation in violence between protestors and police, resulting in multiple deaths and hundreds of injuries. The Ukrainian Security Services announced that they may use “extraordinary measures†to remove protestors from occupied areas. Protestors remain in Kyiv’s Independence Square and have occupied several government buildings in Kyiv and other cities throughout Ukraine. Groups of young men, popularly called “titushky,†have attacked journalists and protestors and committed other random acts of violence in Kyiv and other cities. Since February 19, the use of gunfire against protestors and journalists has been reported.
Ground transportation is currently disrupted in Kyiv and some other parts of the country. Since February 18, local authorities have shut down the Kyiv Metro (subway) for extended periods and cancelled inter-city trains on some routes with little or no notice. Ukrainian authorities have set up roadblocks that restrict access on certain roads entering Kyiv and adjacent to protest areas. Commercial flights to and from Ukraine are currently operating normally.
The situation in Ukraine is unpredictable and could change quickly. Further violent clashes between police and protestors in Kyiv and other cities are possible. The location and nature of demonstrations and methods employed by the police can change quickly and without warning. Protest sites continue to draw large crowds. U.S. citizens are advised to avoid all protests, demonstrations, and large gatherings. U.S. citizens whose residences or hotels are located in the vicinity of the protests are cautioned to leave those areas or prepare to remain indoors, possibly for several days, while clashes occur. U.S. citizens in Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv, should follow media reports closely as events develop.

Must've been one Prog correcting another Prog, for two reasons:
* Conservatives are aware that Ukraine is no longer part of the USSR, and is no longer Communist;
* Conservatives know better than to berate a front desk person or a restaurant server or a bank teller for something over which they had no control;
* Conservatives know managers are the people who have the authority to correct problems like that.
Conservatives also know how to count and have a sense of humor.

A better question for this dummy to ask and ponder is: Am I ever right?

Sure, if by 'Kiev' he meant 'my mom's basement', and by 'on business' he meant 'smoking pot and eating Cheetos'.

I wonder if he's part of the hildabeast's foreign charity fund raising team.

Another in a long string of stories in which a DUmmy saves the day for someone in their own country. Reminds me of that DUmmy (name escapes me) who went to the Philippines and claimed to have helped some crippled kid, taking him from one city to another, feeding him and having bespoke crutches made for him by one of the many fine artisanal medical device fabricators in Luzon. After this life-altering experience, and despite the huge responsibilities assumed when one essentially abducts a child, the DUmmy never posted another word about the experience. Instead, he opted for posts about the vagaries of air conditioner repair.
Bullshitters, DUmmies, all of them. Makes me want to take a marker of invisible ink and draw all over their expensive luggage.

That's actually four reasons, :tongue: but spot on anyway! I give any bouncy that makes me laugh at least one bong, and the verbatim dialogue made me LOL. So did the $5 bill and his definition of "return."
