Sierra Leone officials have confirmed a death from Ebola, hours after the World Health Organization declared the latest West Africa outbreak over.

The country was declared free of the virus on 7 November, and the region as a whole was cleared when Liberia was pronounced Ebola-free on Thursday.

Tests on a person who died in northern Sierra Leone proved positive, an Ebola test center spokesman told the BBC.

The WHO has warned, however, that more flare-ups are expected.

The Sierra Leone death occurred earlier this week.

Ebola test center spokesman Sidi Yahya Tunis told the BBC that the patient had died in the Tonkolili district. He had travelled there from Kambia, close to the border with Guinea.

The tests were conducted by British health experts. The BBC’s Umaru Fofana in the capital Freetown said health officials were now urgently seeking those who had come into contact with the victim.

With the 40 people dead this week from Lassa Fever in Liberia, New York City department of health has decided to no longer monitor west Africans from Liberia living in New York City, Sierra Leone citizens or for that matter anyone from a west African country for Ebola.

Hopefully no refugees from West African with Lassa Fever will arrive to New York at JFK airport.

Dan Goldberg reported on the fact New York City will not  monitor anyone for Ebola from Africa, you can read his story on this here

A new case of Ebola has been confirmed in Sierra Leone.

“There was a new confirmed case,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said, adding that the new case was the aunt of 22-year-old student Marie Jalloh, who tested positive for Ebola and died on January 12 2016.

The 38-year-old woman “was a primary caregiver of young woman who died from Ebola Virus,” he said, adding that she had developed symptoms of Ebola virus on Wednesday while she was being monitored at a Ebola quarantine facility.

“The patient is being treated now,” Jasarevic said.

Sierra Leone health ministry spokesman Sidi Yahyah Tunis also confirmed the new Ebola case, saying the aunt that tested positive with Ebola had helped in washing Jalloh’s body the young woman that died from Ebola, the washing was done to prepare it for an Islamic burial.

“We are expecting other Ebola cases particularly from those who washed the body of the Ebola victim without any protective gear, during the burial process of Marie the first Ebola victim.

That's why I don't take Taxis.

One day I was in New York, and needed to get across town right away.
I asked the hotel doorman to call me a cab.
He said, okay..."you're a cab".
I tipped him and went on my way.
