Losing David Bowie today is like losing part of my soul...

Few other artists have meant as much to me and fewer still ever will.

When I bought my very first CD player 30 years ago, I made sure to buy a David Bowie CD. I got "Station To Station" because I wanted to play "Stay" really, really loud.

Before that, when my entire world seemed to be falling apart around me, I made sure to grab whatever Bowie released at the time because his music would take me away from my troubles.

Many years before that, when I lost my mom, Bowie's music was there as well.

He's been in my life for a good 40 plus years. Now he's gone.

This Friday I'm doing my show again, but according to the rules set up by Mixcloud, I'm only limited to three songs by any particular artist. I'm choosing one from his latest album and the other two from those times in my life when he was there for me.

It'll be my final farewell to someone that I can say that I've truly loved.

Pretty sure this is a template the asshole has set up for whenever some hipster icon dies. I don't believe Dorkio has ever heard a Bowie song before today. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027519426)

My thoughts on David Bowie

In December of 1980, I was watching a basketball game and missed the announcement made by Howard Cosell of the murder of John Lennon on Monday Night Football. After the basketball game I went to the grocery store and I decided call my mom from a pay phone outside of the store. She broke the news to me about Lennon. I was devastated. I couldn't contain myself as I was crying hard from the shock. I will never forget where I was and what I was doing on the night of December 8, 1980.

Sunday, January 10, 2015 will be a night I will never forget where I was and what I was doing. David Bowie passed away. It was a similar shock as when Lennon died.

What makes the death of beloved musicians so hard on us is that we want them to live forever. I wouldn't care if I died first as long as the musicians that wrote the music that I loved would live forever. Music is universal and it's what makes memories in our lives, whether good or bad, and Bowie had that effect on my life's memories.

We can be heroes, just for one day.

Oh, bullshit. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027519918)

**** David Bowie.
**** John Lennon.
**** the Beatles.

I have never cried over the death of a celebrity, politician or any other famous person.

... I don't believe Dorkio has ever heard a Bowie song before today.

His adoration of someone white + male is highly suspect.

You know, one can discern where the primitives' values are, from those they honor.

I suppose David Bowie was a great singer and all that, but seriously, every day dies other people who made substantive contributions for the betterment of mankind, whose passing is little noted--if at all--by the primitives.

One recalls how the Bostonian Drunkard treated the death of his icon Hunter Thompson.

No doubt Thompson was a good journalist--he was at least a famous one--but come on.

If the primitives were given a choice between mourning the guy who played "Mork" on that old television show, "Mork and Mindy," and Albert Schweitzer, there's no doubt who they'd eulogize.

My 2 cents is Bowie was a freak.  He would fit right in with the dummies.

He did have a couple three songs I liked... not enough to go buy an LP or even a 45 of them.

Nope.  Not even, Ronaldus.

One of my dogs?  Yes.

Wait wait wait a second, Scorpio X is mourning over a white guy?

I didn't think he was allowed to do that.

Shouldn't he be rejoicing that there's one less privileged white 1%'er in the world today?

He's messing up his militant BLM position he's taken as of late with this.

As a woman FB friend posted - not intending disrespect - "You sported high heels better than I ever will."

Well, the Beatles are my favorite group and I liked David Bowie's music when he was in his prime, but I certainly don't approve of the lifestyles of any of the individuals, and them dying is neither here nor there except to note that it happened.

Uh, something needs pointed out.

Now, I haven't been everywhere, but I've noticed the bravenak primitive's been absent, and rather suspect we won't know what befell her until the spring thaws of July up in Alaska.

Lamond promised, vowed, swore, he'd find the Bernie bully who threatened her.

After which he seemed to forget all about it.

One suspects that if the bravenak primitive had been a white blond girl, Lamond would've solved the case ten minutes after it happened.....several months ago.

There's probably times when Lamond lets ethnic solidarity fly out the window.

Mrs. Corpio, Nubian warrior, is all choked up over the death of a white devil?

Say it ain't so!

Edit: posted before I read txradioguy's post. Consider this post seconding that emotion.

Second edit: you may consider seconding that emotion a case of cultural appropriation of Motown by a white devil.

I have never cried over the death of a celebrity, politician or any other famous person.

I may cry when Kevin Bacon dies.

What's that? He's not actually made of bacon?

Never mind.

Threadjack for a bacon comment:

Bacon is God's way of saying Pigs are good to eat, no matter what Muslims say.

When Muslims refuse bacon, I say 'That's OK. It means more for me!"

Bacon, and beer, is God's way of telling us he loves us, and wants us to be happy.

"HEY, I'm up here". I was told that once. (Nailed her though, took a month) and had I been smart, I'd have held onto that woman. Good looking, built, intelligent and conservative. (SIGH), I want my youth back..

I have never cried over the death of a celebrity, politician or any other famous person.
I came close with:

* Jack Bennie
* Bob Hope
* George Burns
* Ronald Reagan

But just real sadness, not self-important DRAMA.
