BUT JIMMY CARTER DID IT! debunking the new RW talking point

This is a Washington Post article from November 11, 1979. Actual journalism.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1979/11/11/carter-orders-deportation-of-illegal-students/2f242d98-cf30-46bb-8e8a-c0898f45eda8/

Summary:
There was no deportation of 50,000 Iranians.

Pres. Carter ordered the review of the student visas of the 50,000 Iranian students. If they were over their stay they were made to leave. The others were asked to leave but they had the right to full hearing and appeal.

If they or the other roughly 80,000 Iranian citizens in the US at the time feared for their safety upon return to Iran, they could apply for refugee status.

I haven't seen a single person claiming Carter deported Iranian refugees... only that he had the option to do so.

I think the ProgSite may have negated a claim no one has made. OTOH, I did hear this AM the statement that Carter banned Iranians from entering the US. In support of this:

Hey DUmmie. We're NOT talking about deporting those already here, although he did kick out 15k of them. How about addressing the freakin issue. He refused ENTRY to those not here yet. How about that?

I doubt many Germans, Japanese or Italians were allowed into the US during WW2 (POWs excepted). Besides interning Japanese, Roosevelt also interned some Italians (more narrow scope and many fewer).

Many German people came under US government scrutiny during WW1. There were some spies and saboteurs, but (for obvious reasons) many more were checked out than were found to be spies. German-speaking citizens also experienced violence and riots.

Reality isn't idyllic, and sometimes it sucks.

Reality does not register with the DUmmies.  All that matters to them is how their feelings are involved.  They use no common sense or thought process in their decisions.

While there is considerable truth in your comment, I enjoy showing how easily a very ordinary person like me can demonstrate the stupidity and falsehood of their imagined debunker, using sources like Harvard and a UC Santa Barbara project.

It's salutary to remind Progs of their fact-challenged impotence.

There was practically zero new immigrants to the U.S. for almost 40 years.  The wave of anarchist attacks in the U.S. with the most famous being Sacco and Vanzetti in 1920 was part of the motivating force to give the U.S. a pause in allowing the masses onto our shores.  It was said (and I agree) that the pause was needed to allow those immigrants that had come here to become part of the American culture and way of life.

Then Teddy Kennedy came along in 1965 and screwed everything up for the next 50 years.

They have no sense of reality.
