Yeah, we get it, the kid was an innocent young scholar.

Chicago police officer who shot Laquan McDonald charged with murder

Source: CNN.COM

Chicago (CNN)

Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Laquan McDonald, the Cook County State's Attorney announced.

Anger has been simmering for months about the shooting of Laquan McDonald, a black teenager, by a white Chicago police officer. Will it erupt when video showing McDonald's death goes public?

Chicago will soon find out.

A judge in the northern Illinois city has given the city until Wednesday to release police dashcam video that shows the October 20, 2014, shooting. It's a move Chicago officials have resisted, claiming it could jeopardize any ongoing investigation.

I watched the video and to me it looks like the cop might have to do some fast talking to beat the rap.  But again with the black teen high school graduation picture?  Really?  It is getting to be such a cliché.

5. It's inevitable, unfortunately. No limit to how low they'll go.

"Jason Van Dyke, Laquan McDonald
I'll tell you what was inevitable--a high school graduation picture.

If there was no knife, the Chicago police officer is in  big trouble.
Even if there was a knife, he will most likely get the Officer Wilson treatment.

Apparently the cop put 16 shots into the kid in 14 seconds, many after the kind was down. He was reloading when another officer stopped him. I'm just not seeing any justification for this shooting.

Not only that, but the kid was walking away from the cop when the cop shot him.  IMO, the cop went waaaay overboard and deserves to pay for his actions.  The thing is, the idiots in Shitcago are looking for an excuse to riot and this is something to latch onto.

The video does not look good for the cop, no matter what went on before the final act.  Kid's stumping diagonally away from him with no move on the cop when the cop opens up, no apparent reason to jump to 'shoot to kill' and with the entire mag at that.

Still, pretty good chance the jury will fail to convict unless there are some major shenanigans in the pool and voir dire, which will only pour gas on the anger in the Black community if it happens.  Wouldn't be surprised to see the Feds step in and prosecute.

I saw the video.
I didn't hear the audio that went along with it.
Dude had a knife, and he didn't drop it.
I am guessing he was told many times over to drop the knife.
Depending on that department's policy on knife wielding perps, maybe the cop overreacted.
But looking at the proximate cause, if not for Dude wielding the knife, the incident most probably wouldn't have happened.

Funny, I never heard he had a knife.  I'm pretty sure someone somewhere said he was unarmed.

That's about where I am in understanding and viewing this. Shooting may have been justifiable. Emptying his gun, including when he was down, and then stopped while re-loading? I could be wrong, but that does seem seriously disproportionate.

Looked like a bad shoot to me. I'm thinking the cop is in some trouble on this one.

Looks bad for the cop.

I have to wonder if Jason Van Dyke knew Laquan McDonald. I wonder if McDonald knew something and that Van Dyke killed him to silence him.
