Do you remember any hysterias that were spreading around when you were in school?
-
Well, "Duck, Cover and Roll" comes to mind...
And aliens had landed in the schoolyard.

I remember in elementary school, there were fears of skinheads. Mostly Jewish kids claimed they saw skinheads. There were even rumors that at least one the kids had a knife held to his throat by the skinheads and later left.

Yeah, losing to Florence HS.
-
Russia was going to nuke us.
We would all have AIDS
-
When I was a junior in HS, the senior class let loose a whole truck bed full of chickens on campus. That caused a bit of hysteria among the administrators. We the students, however, found it quite amusing. :lmao:

Hrm...
AIDS
global warming
ozone hole
the Chocolate War being on the high school English reading list
-
I don't remember school in general. college OR high school. :-)

Just this one:(http://defleppard.snaggledworks.com/archive/pictures/hysteria.jpg)

Growing up just outside of an AFB, we had the Cuban Missile crisis, (duck and cover drills) and the upcoming ice age... :o
-
In grade school (small town Oklahoma) one of the older girls from my church told me Russia had 5 nukes for every county in America. I didn't phrase it quite this way in my mind but, I found that to be excessively scary for quite a long time. It, never occuring to me to doubt the number or that every missle would hit and America would be the only target and Altus, OK must not survive etc etc. :-)

When I was a junior, the seniors decided to walk out of class at the end of their last day and march the halls. (Seniors are - or were - let out a week earlier than everyone else.) As their march went on and the crowd grew, it started to get more and more rowdy. Textbooks and notebooks were ripped up and strewn about the hallways, becoming ankle deep in spots. (Seriously!) Some of the delinquents in both the junior and senior classes started whipping up the crowd by getting them to chant that the principal sucked. Some of them drew graffiti on the walls/lockers, too. It was a near riot and many teachers were afraid to leave their classrooms. The crowd eventually broke up (or was broken up - I don't know how). The worst offenders were punished (suspensions/expulsions) and the entire senior class was punished with the loss of their special end-of-year dinner held during the last week of school.

I heard about that with Jack in the Box. It was a nationwide rumor. However, I heard the rumor as kangaroo meat and it was in middle school for me.

Did they get any ptarmigans, since they are related to chicken?

Sounds like a very common hysteria among school children.

I remember another hysteria about a couple weeks after Columbine, that there would be a drive by shooting at my high school. It freaked a lot of people out.

No wonder their wonderful tacos were only 19 cents.

Their tacos are actually good. Sometimes better than Taco Bell. Kangaroo meat is very expensive anyways.
-
I remember the pixie stix scare of 1974. My parents trashed all
our Halloween candy that year. :banghead:

I know their tacos are good. They use to GREAT back when I was in high school (I guess it was the roo meat). In fact, I'm about to get four tacos and a six-pc. chicken strip order for my Angel and me to have for dinner.

That's one of what started the scare of needles and poison in candies after Halloween in 1974. The sad part was that it was his own father, Ronald Clark O'Brien, who did it for life insurance money. He also put poison in other candies to cover his crime. He was executed in 1984. What a scumbag!
