Oh my.

What happens if you can't pay your car payment and credit cards?
What will happen if you don't pay your car payment and you can no longer afford to pay your credit card debt? What is the worse that can happen? Jail?
Can someone please give me some advice? Last month I found out that my girlfriend is running a $900 per month deficit. She cannot afford her car payment, insurance, and gas.
We are living together now, and we might not be able to afford our rent. I can chip in, but I don't have an extra $900 per month. I don't know what to do.
Please, if anyone has any advice or suggestions, please reply.
It's an enormous bonfire, at least 15 miles long.

2. Of course you're not going to jail.
Or anywhere else that's not within walking distance, because they'll repossess your car.
The Credit Card company will hound and hound you, then sell the debt to a collection agency which will hound you even more.
But no, no jail time. We'd be building skyscraper prisons if that were the case.

10. How will we be hounded
we don't have a phone. Will there be court involved? The thing is, we don't have any money. If it is only a "credit score" issue, I can handle that.

22. It's technically possible that the credit card companies could go to court
But that's probably rare. It will make life a little harder for about 7 years though, until it drops off the record.
Other than that, losing the car will be the worst of it.

33. It's more than technically possible... I was sued for a bounced check and a credit card balance of 3 grand. They don't f* around. This is the event that triggered my decision to file for bankruptcy.

66. It's not rare
we've received 7 summons between the two of us in the last 6 months on credit cards we couldn't pay anymore. once they have a judgement against you, they garnish your wages (if your state allows it...arizona does, texas doesn't)

28. Oh, no phone, that's great. Just a few letters, I suppose.
I'm in the same boat.

4. You can be thankful she is just your girlfriend. Sad, but true.

13. I am starting to hear that
sadly.
But I am in love. This is now my problem.
It just goes on and on; the original primitive never does answer the one question about whether or not he or the girlfriend works.
I'm thinking, $900 per month deficit, and no telephone.....hmmmm. Most people run a deficit because of their childlike fondness for electronic toys, racking up cellular-telephone minutes. Sure, there's cheap cellular telephone services, but a person careless with money isn't likely to be using one of those.
And it's obvious many primitives spend more each month on credit card fees, credit card interest, credit card penalties, than they do on groceries.
Drugs, perhaps?
After all, while the cost of groceries and gasoline has increased 3x since 1980, the cost of marijuana has increased 16x during the same time.
I dunno.
And then, ooops, someone pops in.

27. Credit counseling is almost always a rip-off
Pay $1500 that you don't have to be told by a bunch of people (who now have your $1500) that you shouldn't be spending $1500 on stuff you don't need.
There is NOTHING in a "credit counseling" course that cannot be found with five minutes on the google.
It's an interesting bonfire, but far too long to bring much of it over here.

How many of them blamed Bush and this lousy economy? Their personal debt must be somehow tied to GWB and his evil minions..... :fuelfire:

Coach, I think this primitive has the right train of thought . . .

14. do you have a job?
does she?
My bets usually lose (last Wednesday at Saratoga Race Course is a prime example), but this bet, I'd double on gladly, feeling fairly secure that I'd win it.

But money for a computer and internet access? I bet they have a color TV, dvd player, etc...
If she's that much in debt and they aren't married (no joint accounts) they are only going to come after her.
My guess is that they recently moved in together and she lied about her income/debt ratio and he can't cover it.
Like you said, he's not answering the questions. All DUmmies lie all of the time. If he asked me, I would tell him to cut back expenses, cut up the existing credit cards, put themselves on a strict budget and work out a payment plan with her creditors. Use that computer and internet access to find a second job or a better job. Sell off anything you can for quick cash.
Or, go seek out the free legal aid that's so popular right now. Our county is running seminars (my tax dollars at work) for people in over their heads financially. It was originally geared towards people headed for foreclosure. But the community "activists" are telling anyone who will listen to go get the free advice.
There's help out there and options. The DUmmie just has to look for it. It ain't on DU that's for sure.

But it's not their fault...wait for it but the excuses are coming.... :loser:

102. What will happen?
The Republicans will laugh and laugh and laugh, and offer you terrible jobs for very little money with zero benefits and no chance for promotion unless you turn out to be one of them. If you ever challenge them, you'll be fired and someone else who can't pay their bills will gladly take the work.
They are building a cheap, frightened labor force, and have been doing so since the Reagan years.
The Dude for President. White Russians for everyone!

127. We have been together two years
at this time I am not considering marriage, although we have talked about it.
She is current with all her credit cards and car loan. She recently got sick and is unable to work.
There is a whole lot of lying going on. :whatever:
I saw this post and almost fell out of the chair laughing....remember these are the self proclaimed geniuses of our society.

84. Auto depreciation is something we need legislation to address
I didn't know this, but a new car is apparently worth something like 20% less than what you paid for it the moment it drives off the lot.
That should be outright illegal.
Good God these people are as stupid as they come, they know absolutely nothing about life.
-
Seems to me, for the most part, they think business ought to be illegal.
-
yes, things don't seem to be adding up. All DUmmies lie all of the time.

They should use the Menu button on the remote, find "Pitcture Preferences" and adjust out the color until they catch up on their bills.
