So we now know why Rubio has the worst voting and attendance record of any other Senator. I think he just sunk his ship. Any candidate needs to win Florida. Not doing your damn job in the very State that you need to win doesn't bode well for a candidate seeking the presidency. Rubio is a RINO. To get elected he preached an anti-amnesty stance. Many Floridians aren't going to forget he took a different approach after he was seated. You will never convince me that Rubio is too dedicated to public service to stay...quite the opposite. He is part of the GOP establishment/Washington cartel.
Rubio gives up on Senate: ‘He hates it’
Marco Rubio is a U.S. senator. And he just can’t stand it anymore.
“I don’t know that ‘hate’ is the right word,†Rubio said in an interview. “I’m frustrated.â€
This year, as Rubio runs for president, he has cast the Senate — the very place that cemented him as a national politician — as a place he’s given up on, after less than one term. It’s too slow. Too rule-bound. So Rubio, 44, has decided not to run for his seat again. It’s the White House or bust.
“That’s why I’m missing votes. Because I am leaving the Senate. I am not running for reelection,†Rubio said in the last Republican debate, after Donald Trump had mocked him for his unusual number of absences during Senate votes.
Five years ago, Rubio arrived with a potential that thrilled Republicans. He was young, ambitious, charismatic, fluent in English and Spanish, and beloved by the establishment and the tea party.
But Rubio had arrived at one of the least ambitious moments in Senate history and saw many of his ideas fizzle. Democrats killed his debt-cutting plans. Republicans killed his immigration reform. The two parties actually came together to kill his AGREE Act, a small-bore, hands-across-the-aisle bill that Rubio had designed just to get a win on something.
Now, he’s done. “He hates it,†a longtime friend from Florida said, speaking anonymously to say what Rubio would not.
Which makes for an odd campaign message.
Rubio must convince voters that his decision to leave the Senate — giving up the power he already has — is actually a mark of character, a sign that he is too dedicated to public service to stay....

You mean the word of Lord Rove isn't enough? :-)

Regardless of the "source" the fact of the matter IS Rubio DOES have the worst participation and voting record of any Senator. I watched the interview of Rubio this evening regarding him leaving the Senate and basically stated he didn't like his job as Senator and is frustrated. Levin also made reference to his "frustration" this evening -- Sorry but Rubio needs to pack his bags and get out of politics. Rubio took the job and now because he doesn't like it, he's bailing on the very people that voted for him.
He won't win Florida nor will he win the nomination for the GOP candidate.
Cruz 2016! Reigniting the Promise of America!!

A hit piece orchestrated by Jeb's buds, I suspect.

Personally, I think any sitting politician who wants to make a run for "higher" office should resign his current office. You can't do your job and grip, grin, and tell lies too.

It's not like having a senate majority is doing any good for for republicans.
-
Well then I figure da Turtle has succeeded in alienating republicans and conservatives.
He is a sham and an embarrassment to any republican.

True. A senate majority with RINO leadership has been detrimental. I don't see that majority lasting.

I honestly can't blame any halfway conservative senator being disgusted with GOP-e leadership in congress.

That's the problem. Rubio's a half-assed conservative senator.
-
If Rubio is the nominee, the media and liberals will attack and savage his voting record just like they did against Gov. Palin.

As much as I agree with you has any other senator who has ran for POTUS been chastised by the libs or you for that matter?
Graham, Kerry and Obama all were much much worse when the ran and I don't recall any complaints, do recall endorsements though!
Just another liberal media made up story is all that even R's are running with.

Yeah but they let BO slide

Things like this can be neutralized pretty easily but the R's are more interested in being PC then winning an election.
Is all he would have to do is say well I do believe I missed much less then Obama and Lurch and LET IT GO! MOVE ON!

The news media would pound Rubio on a daily basis regarding this issue. You expect them to be honest and fair? Plus, if you tell a lie enough times, people start to believe the misrepresentation. The left wing liberals will be out to destroy our candidate by hook or crook.

I'm sure they would but if you neutralize it and move on they would get tired of it. Ask them why it was Ok for the libs but not him? Remember no one who is even thinking of voting for a R watches MSNBC, CNN anyway, they will always be liberals who watch these channels. End the debate before it starts.
Like his spending habits came up last night in the debate, he should of saids what he did but added well Hillary was worth millions when they left the WH and thought she was flat broke, how could she handle a budget?

While I'm totally unenthused about MConnell, the problem in the Senate is that a simple majority only cures about 20% of the problem, you need 60 votes to actually move almost all legislation out of it to the President's desk. As long as the Dems there remain an obstinate and uncompromising solid block, you can't move anything past the cloture vote stage.

You are correct but if you keep passing legislation and MAKE OBlamer VETO bill after bill. This can be used at election time and show who the real obstructionist is. Right now they sit and do nothing!

However, since the gop supposedly controls both bodies, they could have resorted to some of the dirty tricks the dems used to pass bills and get them to Obama's veto pen.

I've been thinking that thought for a lotta years, Stranger. I couldn't give a shit less who else has chastised whom. I'm not keeping score -- I just think that the professional politicians, whoever they are, need to GTFO of office when they decide to campaign for an office that they don't presently have.

If the bills don't pass the cloture vote (60) in the Senate, they never even GET to Obama to veto. He is able to hide behind the Senate Dems as long as they hold onto at least 40 seats there, without ever having to lift a finger and touch that veto pen.
And thundley4, as I recall, the Dems actually had the 60 votes (Or, since one of them was mentally checked out due to a stroke and a couple of the others were only barely checked into the net, it would be more accurate to say the GOP did not have the 41 votes to force cloture on the bills) to move anything they wanted out of the Senate during Obozo's first two years, which is when we got Obozocare, but after that the GOP gained enough seats to actually be able to stop legislation. I do recall during Reid's last term as Majority Leader, they did monkey with the rules to try and prevent GOP filibusters, but without looking it up I am not sure to what extent it ended up making a real difference.
-

Dream on. Look what the media did to Herman Cain & Gov. Palin. Once they see a little blood in the water, liberal newspapers and TV journalists will NOT get tired of attacking Rubio.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a simple majority enough to change the cloture rules?

That's my understanding, but neither side wants to go there with it since the worm will eventually turn and the ass-kicking boot will be on the other foot when it does.

...except that the GOP leadership in BOTH houses side with the DEMS; they are both RINO's and Ryan will be no better than Boehner.

I didn't follow Cain very much but the Palin's were the one's who kept throwing wood on the fire. You must admit her family turned into a reality TV disaster.

This is ironic because obama was another one would skipped votes and even did not serve out his term in the Senate and yet he is the president.

Different rules apply. Hillary nor Obummer did not put forth much legislation in Congress as I am aware of. Both pulled the race and affirmative action card to attain a higher office.

Rubio, in my opinion, is all about winning the White House, so he can make good on his progressive dreams. Just like O, the Senate was just a stepping stone for the ultimate power position.
& he just got mega help from an important member of the donor class. (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/31/us/politics/paul-singer-influential-billionaire-throws-support-to-marco-rubio-for-president.html)
Hedge fund billionaire Paul Singer, CEO & founder of Elliott Management Corporation, is throwing his support @ Rubio. He was also a supporter of Bush & Romney. Sideline, he's a supporter of LGBT equality, & understandably so; his son married a man.
But more importantly, he shares Rubio's enthusiasm for amnesty. (http://www.politico.com/story/2013/04/gop-donor-paul-singer-immigration-reform-090726)

I reside in Florida. Rubio out and out lied in order to get elected to the Senate. He at first campaigned against amnesty and changed his tune soon after he became Senator. IMHO he is not trustworthy. Not only did he not keep his campaign promise he did not keep his promise to serve the people of Florida as Senator. Stating that the reason he hasn't voted because he's so busy with his presidential campaign is yet another lie. His voting record and attendance has always been rather sparse; it's just now he's having to admit to it.
Unfortunately, as in the case of Barry, people just don't seem to check or research a candidate before they ingest all the b.s. and hot air that a candidate is spewing. They look to see how "presidential" they look, how well they articulate and take whatever they say as the gospel truth. Rubio speaks well, is younger than most, looks presidential and that the fact that he's pro-amnesty and Hispanic pretty much is a "sell" for a lot of people.
Rubio right now is the GOPe's golden boy. They know that Jeb has dropped in the polls. I look for the RNC to start propping Rubio up and backing him financially. Jeb will stay in only because he has the $$ to do so. The only other candidate that has that much staying power is Trump and maybe Cruz.

So far, doesn't seem to be Cruz's style; Trump yes. Now that it has been requested that a different approach be taken with the debates other than to have liberals moderate them, I anticipate that we will actually see a debate between the candidates. Cruz with his conservative record and debating skills should do very well. Bush can throw all the $$ around that he wants; he still has to answer for his record as well as the others; including Rubio. Cruz is the only one that has stood up to the Washington cartel time and time again. Carson has no record to speak of which could go either way.
