The new movie "Truth" is American political docudrama film written and directed by James Vanderbilt, his directoral debut. It is based on American journalist Mary Mapes' 2005 memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, The President And The Privilege Of Power about the Killian documents controversy. The film stars Cate Blanchett as Mapes and Robert Redford as news anchor Dan Rather.
It plays the story as all true. Needless to say there are many people who are not pleased with it.
CBS itself has put out a scathing report about it.
CBS does not appear inclined to participate in Mapes’s creative retelling of her own downfall. A spokesperson for CBS gave Variety the following statement on the veracity of the film:
It’s astounding how little truth there is in “Truth.†There are, in fact, too many distortions, evasions and baseless conspiracy theories to enumerate them all. The film tries to turn gross errors of journalism and judgment into acts of heroism and martyrdom. That’s a disservice not just to the public but to journalists across the world who go out every day and do everything within their power, sometimes at great risk to themselves, to get the story right.
One of the “conspiracy theories†CBS mentions may be a central contention of the film about why CBS pulled the story, demoted Rather, and fired Mapes. The Hollywood Reporter suggested the film claims, “Rather and Mapes were fired to appease the Bush White House and to protect the CBS financial bottom line.â€
Today on Fox News Sunday the panel discusses the film.

Scums of the earth KKKarl & Chris WALLACE did a hit job on Dan RATHER (movie "Truth")
They each did their little individual recaps of their versions of what happened, with KKKarl lacing it all with labeling the KNOWN AWOL Shrub story as being based on "forged documents." They also cited the CBS final report as being gawd's truth. Then WALLACE invoked his sacred father as having confronted RATHER and told him that if his whole crew, producer, and an exec were fired then RATHER should have the decency to resign.
WALLACE capped it all with the single word "revisionism." No, you two creepezoids, Shrub was AWOL, and is a lifelong shameless scum of the earth.
Question to KKKarl: Shall we start your litany of crimes with James HATFIELD?!1

Karl used him to sheep dip Smirko McCokespoon. Then, he died. Conveniently before 9-11.
The story: Pretzeldent Smirko was attending the G-8 summit at Genoa. Instead of staying on land at a luxury hotel, the commandeer-n-thief chose to sleep aboard a guided missile destroyer. Why? July 3, 2001—There may be fireworks in Genoa, Italy, this month, too.
A plot by Saudi master terrorist, Osama bin Laden, to assassinate Dubya during the July 20 economic summit of world leaders, was uncovered after dozens of suspected Islamic militants linked to bin Laden's international terror network were arrested in Frankfurt, Germany, and Milan, Italy, in April.
German intelligence services have stated that bin Laden is covertly financing neo-Nazi skinhead groups throughout Europe to launch another terrorist attack at a high-profile American target—his first since the bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen last October.
According to counter-terrorism experts quoted in Germany's largest newspaper, the attack on Dubya might be a James Bond-like aerial strike in the form of remote-controlled airplanes packed with plastic explosives.

FTR: The guy died a few days after this was published. A suicide. Hatfield, for all his faults deserved better, like a Pulitzer.

Wow! I hadn't heard the "shrub" faux-condescending nickname in over a decade! Glad to see DU folk recycling even the moldiest stupidity. And, given his apparent health habits and heredity, GWB is likely to have another 30 or 40 years' revenge on these fools, in the form of living freely in freedom. Sometimes hatred takes vengeance on the hater.
Dan Rather and Mary Mapes, OTOH, will live out their lives in self-inflicted and well-earned disrepute.
