Title: Citing Failures, Pentagon Scraps Syrian Rebel Training Program
Post by: samspade on October 09, 2015, 10:35:56 AM: A senior Defense Department official, who was not authorized to speak publicly and who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that there would no longer be any more recruiting of so-called moderate Syrian rebels to go through training programs in Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates. Instead, a much smaller training center would be set up in Turkey, where a small group of â€œenablersâ€ â€” mostly leaders of opposition groups â€” would be taught operational maneuvers like how to call in airstrikes.

Now this administration will just give weapons directly to ISIS without the pretext of sending fighters who immediately join the terorists and hand over their weapons.

Post by: DumbAss Tanker on October 09, 2015, 03:24:02 PM: It's been a total failure, which has only added to the death toll in Syria to no effect, and based on a gross misread of the situation combined with no overarching strategy (At least, none that actually makes any sense or could actually work) to justify it. 'Way past time to pull the plug.

Post by: thundley4 on October 09, 2015, 08:50:32 PM: Why train any Syrian rebels. Putin will just kill them anyway. Obama had his chance to drive Assad from power. He did nothing in Syria, so Putin decided it time to end the mess and keep Assad in power.
