I'm certain that not many here have heard of this story--Hell, I didn't until I clicked on the link.  But, this does put lie to ant--gunners' claims aboutguns causing the crimes a bit . . .

While Media Focuses Only On Guns, 50 Are Killed In China Knife Attack

October 3, 2015 7:18 pm·

Just over a week ago in Xinjiang, China, a knife attack left 50 people dead, and the suspects responsible for the killings are still on the run. According to government sources, the attack was carried out by a group of at least 9 suspects who attacked workers and security guards at a coal mine in Xinjiang. The government has blamed the attack on “separatists,” but it is possible that separatist movements are being used as a political scapegoat.

“The damage of the attack was very severe—that is why we are controlling [the flow of] information about the incident so strictly, lest we frighten Han migrants in Aksu,” one government source told local reporters.

It was even estimated by some sources that the death count could be as high as 110.

According to local police officer Ekber Hashim, “nearly all the workers who were not on shift at the time were killed or injured.”

“Some workers were sleeping while others were preparing to work when the attackers raided the building after killing the security guards,”
he added.

The next couple of paragraphs talk about the circumstances of cops who went to the mine . . . and concludes with a missive on just how useless gun control really is.

The article misses an important aspect of this coordinated attack, one that is alongside the article's editorial aspect. Xinjiang is in westernmost China. The several western provinces have large "minority" populations ("minority" in the context of the overall population of China). Many of those ethnic minorities are ... Muslim. And unrest and separatism have been a large problem in western China. On the other side of the coin, the national government of China is rather racist. They favor Han Chinese, even over ethnic groups many westerners would not recognize as different. The government of China has treated many ethnic minorities (not just Muslims) like @#$%.

I'm not justifying these (probable) Muslim separatists, just giving context. China also treats Buddhist Tibetans like @#$%, and in Tibet, even worse.

I must have heard that pronunciation while listening to CNN.

My bad.   :shucks: According to wikipedia it's spelled Uyghur and indeed pronounced with an ih and not an ee or in other words, wih GUR.  Apologies.  However, I now have weeguhr pronunciation stuck in my head.

One thing I'm not wrong about though is that if there's a current world problem or war or crisis if you scratch the surface you'll find Islam's adherents.  The Uyghurs may be the aggrieved party in this particular case, however, that would overall be a rare occurrence wouldn't it?

I doubt it's true. They have been committing acts of terrorism in China and they hit back every time China cracks down on them.

Well then that would example why the Chinese government would treat them like shit!  Just wish ours would be half as pro-active on behalf of the citizenry as the Russians and Chinese.

China has a lot of ethnic groups. The Han are the majority than you have Uyghurs, Tajiks, Tibetans, and Koreans. Islamists are a problem in China, especially in Western China.

In Xining, where my daughter attends university, the significant ethnic groups are Han, Hui, Monguor (Tu), and Tibetan. The Hui are fairly numerous in China, and are Muslims. Xining has several large mosques, and I've not heard from her of any Muslim unrest.
