Confederate flags found in old SBHS yearbooks (VT)
Haley Dover, Free Press Staff Writer 12:04 a.m. EDT September 27, 2015

SOUTH BURLINGTON – Inside the robin-egg blue binders of the 1966 South Burlington High School yearbook is a black-and-white photo of a cheerleader’s megaphone adorned with the Confederate battle flag. The yearbooks from that era contain numerous images of students posing with the flag.

Those yearbook photos settle the question about the link between the school’s nickname, the Rebels, and the slave states that fought to secede from the Union during the Civil War. Though the school dropped the Confederate colonel as its mascot about 20 years ago, the name has remained.

Since late July, the board has heard comments and received emails from community members after a South Burlington resident questioned whether “the Rebels” is offensive and should be removed.

Numerous residents have urged the School Board to replace the nickname with something more inclusive of all South Burlington students. Voices on the other side of the debate have been as loud, with many students urging the district to keep the name ...

If they want to change the name, may I suggest it change from "Rebels" to "Perpetually offended delicate flowers"?

•A student debate about the nickname. The debate would be facilitated by an outside, trained individual.

In other words, they'll find someone who has already determined the school should change their name, and is trained in how to get others to accept his/her opinion.

Liberals disgust me.

Hmmmmm ... Twinkies is trademarked (and too tasty). Snowflakes ('flakes for short)? Pabula (a plausible plural of Pabulum, which could be used in reference to individual students or alumni/alumnae). Sheeple?

I think they should change it to 'Pussies,' myself. :whistling:

1. Will the photos be removed from the yearbooks?

when no record of intolerance remains, we can move forward.

What were there, three black people in the whole state in 1966? All of those Confederate flags must have scared the others away.

Oh for ****’s face DUmmies, do you really think changing names and banning flags will change anyone’s attitude for the better?

In other news…

I don’t know how much truth there is to this, but I’ve heard that Mattel is planning to focus on getting more liberals bucks this Christmas. Rumor is that they’re working on a new Barbie doll marketed directly toward liberals. It’ll be known as Perpetually Offended Barbie.

There is also a claim that some company is working on an entire line of liberal inaction figures. I’ve only heard stories about the initial offering in this line, but apparently you wind it up and it waddles around trying to stir shit up.

The Randys1 bobblehead will also be available. It only bobbles when in proximity to the Mike Brown doll, though.

Why are they worried about something from 50 years ago?

Talk about injustice collecting!  :mental:

If you gave these people free reign and enough TNT nothing they even slightly disagree with would remain standing.

Not being able to leave well enough alone is a big part of what makes a lib... a lib.
