The perpetually erect DUmmy stevenumbers starts a suck-up thread for Elad.
Suck-up threads are always popular among DUmmies, and this one turns into an orgasmic frenzy as one unterprimitiven after another tries to be most worshipful of the elusive, enigmatic one.
They remind me of a squirming ball of mating garter snakes.
The risk here is that DUmmy Elad will get all pumped up and ask Skimmer for more money.
That would result in Elad's demise, and the DUmp software landing in the lap of the learning-disabled Lord Marblehead, Earl G.

Elad Appreciation Thread
Elad has done an absolutely exceptional job with the board software. I really like it and find it easy to use, easy to read, and quite customizable. I don't know if Skinner and EarlG also do some technical stuff, but for sure, Elad has done extremely good work. It's absolutely the best board software I've ever seen, bar none.
Thank you Elad. Many good wishes to you in your career at DU and beyond.

It's one of the reasons I stick around this place. Very easy to use, and easy on the eyes.
Some boards are just awful and confusing.

12. This is the place I go to discuss news and politics.
First of all for the people (of course) but the code is the building we're all meeting in and it's some amazing architecture -- a great comfortable marketplace of ideas with big noisy halls, smaller conference rooms, and many quieter places to simply talk, big ideas, small ideas, and silliness too.
I love it.

DU software is what it is. I was always able to navigate it pretty well. The are far better message boards to interact on, and far worse. Of course the key at the DUmp is to follow their rules...bending on your particular whim that day as I certainly have.

The DUmps incoherent formatting style of sub threads within sub threads only makes sense to those that don`t care what anyone else posts or the insane.
In other words just perfect for them.

It's so much easier to follow a thread when you're allowed to quote someone i your reply to them. I've seen crap where a post with a certain number in a subthread refers to a post with a later number on it that is long past the subthread.

That's it. Fifteen years ago, Skins was perceptive enough to see that the primitives would be (a) too stupid to understand any "quote" function or (b) too lazy to use it or (c) so inconsiderate of their fellow primitives they'd just not use it.
Imagine cousin nadin, when confronted with an option to "quote."
She wouldn't, because she's so awesome it'd be the primitives' own fault if they couldn't figure out on their own, to what she was referring.
I could see, for other examples, MrsCorpio being too stupid to understand how to use it, and thunderthighs, the fizzgig primitive, being too much of a slob to use it.

Her awesomeness isn't debatable, but I think she would love an easy capability to quote herself.

Just as it is here for primitive guests, "members currently on line" should be visible to all, so that one could better decide whether or not it's worth going in to read.
We don't have such a feature ourselves, but we don't need one--some sort of thing that lists all the primitives currently on enforced leave, and how much longer before they can come back to Skins's island--again, visible to the general public.
I dunno why Skins is so afraid of being open.

Skins can't allow the primities to see very far past the curtain. Doing so would cause either a mass emigration, or an armed revolt.
Then his true colors would shine through. DU Admins Lives Matter. All of you other funky DUmp members had better remember that.

Because it sucks, that's why.
Do you also know why DU was forced to put together the new Discussionist format ?
Because DCScripts closed up shop and abandoned their buggy, exploit ridden software.
I do give Elad kudos for sticking with it, and seeing it through to the end - as well as his work patching and customizing DCForum+ to the point he did.. But, even he would probably have to admit the base software was more trouble than it was worth. I have read Elad's posts on the long offline DCScripts support forum. He had as much trouble navigating the problematic software as virtually every other user.
