Congrats Venus Williams
I love the Williams sisters and their parents

Venus Williams is more than just a star tennis player. She's a college graduate! And unlike those honorary degrees given to so many celebrities, Williams actually hit the books and earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Indiana University. The tennis champ, who's into the second round so far at the U.S. Open, enrolled in the university's online degree completion program back in 2011, and on her way to a tournament in Cincinnati in August, stopped by the Richmond, Indiana, campus to pick up her well-deserved diploma. Williams stated in a press release, "It was always my dream to have a business degree, and I ended up going to art school so many times, but in the back of my head I felt like I needed the tools to be a better leader."

--------------------

Malaise cares about roughly five things: whatever is going on in a country she doesn't live in, the non-words "fugg" and "thug," a man who has a footrace about once a year, storms in the Caribbean, and Serena Williams. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027132471)

You know when a Grand Slam event is nigh because Malaise is there to stink up the joint with her sofrito farts about how much better Serena is than anyone else (and by "anyone," of course she means "white players") No doubt that Serena is a great champion and will soon be the best to ever play the game, but she's also a well-known boor and poor sport. Which, again, is why a piece of shit like Malaise identifies with her.

Now, Serena completes an online degree, and Malaise wants Oxford to issue her an honorary DSc for this achievement. Whatever.

Yep.  I suspect that she regularly wants to outright say so right there on the DU, but refrains knowing that all the fragile whiteys wouldn't be able to accept such a hard "truth".

Another thing I've never understood about DU...why would folks like Malaise and NumberNumbers CONSTANTLY rail against a country they don't live in??

What I also don't get is how insecure Malaise is. You'd have to be a complete moron to say Williams isn't one of the top female players of all time, and will likely stake claim to the greatest of all time. Without question. I don't understand what victory that is for Malaise? She must think that all the teaparty Bubbas in their trucks with Confederate flags each have a little shrine in their closets to Steffi Graf, or that when those Bubbas climb out of their F-350s, they all sit for beers and secretly dread the discussion topic of...women's tennis. Because if that topic comes up (as it is liable to come up whenever such men congregate), they have no place to hide. That must be what Malaise thinks. Meanwhile, the world either couldn't care less, or they ridicule such people.

I cringe every time it comes up.  Why, just last night ...............

Yeah, I know. I was sitting at the lodge with some friends, and it wasn't too long before one of the guys brought it up. I just cringed. This guy is a big Margaret Court man. And sure, she isn't without her qualifications, but the game fundamentally changed. So we kicked it back and forth over a good half bottle of Basil Hayden's. You know, Court, King, and how sport benefited from Chris Evert's emergence. That was comfortable for a while, but we sort of fell silent after a while. I started to say, "You know, fellas, no one really knows how good Evonne Goolag-" and then my buddy stopped me with a little tap on my forearm.
"Forget it, he said,"there's no use. We come here every week and we talk about women's tennis, and we're just kidding ourselves. Come on, boys. Come clean: Serena Williams is the greatest female tennis player of all time." He slugged back his whiskey and put his glass down silently, then stared out the window.
We were silent for a little while, each lost in his own reconciliation. Then Fred took my left hand, and Joe took my right, and Bill took Fred's, and Ken joined hands with the others, and there we were, the five of us, joined in a prayerful sort of moment of acceptance. We had to let them go: Tracy Austin. Martina Navratilova. Bettina Bunge. Pam Shriver. Hana Mandlikova. We had to let them go.
     "Serena Williams," Joe said.
"Serena Williams,  we all repeated, softly, Fred's baritone adding lustre coming in slightly behind, "greatest female tennis player of all time."
We wept quietly for a while, then we dragged a Mexican kid behind one of our trucks on the way home.

Are Tennis Players The Greatest Athletes...

Of course the U.S. Open is well underway and it represents the highlight of my summer.

There are a lot of great sports and great athletes. However, I'm convinced that tennis players represent the best athletes in the world. With all due respect to professional basketball players (the second most demanding sport), I don't think there is a more demanding sport than tennis...both physically and mentally.

It's a new thread, but Wiffen :stoner: Poof :stoner: sure smells like a dirty Jamaican sock

The Williams "sisters" have consumed so many PEDs it's amazing any were left over for Tiger and Lance.
