As a kid, fire drills taught you fire safety. And you haven’t been killed by a fire. Your parents trained similarly for nuclear war. With 248 mass shootings in US in the 238 days of 2015, it’s time we began treating those the same way. This is how.
That statistic is drawn from ShootingTracker.com, a community-sourced tracking tool. “The old FBI definition of Mass Murder (not even the most recent one) is four or more people murdered in one event,†the site’s creators explain of what makes it different from law enforcement-sourced numbers. “It is only logical that a Mass Shooting is four or more people shot in one event.â€
This is not just another article meant to scare you. I write about adventure travel in the outdoors and, through that, I live a life of managed risk. I’ve rescued myself and saved the lives of others. I’m able to do all that because I try to learn everything I can about the risks I face, learn how to overcome them, and then approach any potentially dangerous situation prepared for it both mentally and physically. And that’s why I’m writing this article. Like any reasonable person, the prospect of being caught up in a mass shooting terrifies me. It’s not how I want to go out, personally, and I’d also like to find substantial advice to give to my loved ones.
This article isn’t going to focus on shooting back or the politics around guns. Most people don’t carry them every day, and that’s who this article is for: most people. Neither will we consider the implications of why these shootings occur; instead we’ll simply focus on what you and I can do to survive them. This is a practical guide, not an attempt to cover the mass shooting topic comprehensively....

Poll Finds That More Americans Back Gun Rights Than Stronger Controls
Two years after the mass school shooting in Newtown, Conn., a majority of Americans say it is more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns than for the government to limit access to firearms, a Pew Research Center survey conducted this month found.
The center said that it was the first time in two decades of its surveys on attitudes about firearms that a majority of Americans had expressed more support for gun ownership rights than for gun control.
Fifty-two percent of respondents said it was more important to protect gun ownership rights, and 46 percent said the priority should be controlled access to firearms.
In a 2000 Pew survey, 29 percent chose gun rights over gun control, and in a 2013 survey conducted a month after the Newtown shooting, 45 percent favored gun rights.

This "statistic" sounds phony on its phace (fauxny on its face?). Is it pulled from some one's rectal regions? Is there some games-playing in it? Or should I start watching TV news more than zero times a year?
I have two easy survival tips:
* Stay out of guns-free zones; they attract mass-shooter wannabes; if your kids are school age, homeschool them;
* Stay out of high crime neighborhoods and cities like Camden, NJ, Detroit, MI, and Oakland, CA (such cities might have decent neighborhoods, but thugs are very close by).

Um, most schools DO have drills and procedures on what to do in the event of a mass shootings, and inform kids of how to act in such occasions.

They define "mass shooting" as any single incident in which at least four people are shot, including the gunman. The tracker comes in for some criticism because its definition is broader than the FBI's definition, which requires three or more people to be killed by gunfire. But the broader definition is nonetheless a useful one, because it captures many high-profile instances of violence — like the recent Lafayette theater shootings — that don't meet the FBI's criteria.
:whatever: The source of the stat is a gun-grabbers' site. :whatever: Big non-shock! :whatever: And to make the VA shooting a "mass shooting" the WashPost's Ingraham had to include the murderer's act of suicide as a "shooting". :whatever: Given the number of murder-suicides one hears about, I wonder how many other suicides were included in the gun-grabbers' stats so as to inflate their "mass shootings" count (as if guns were the only means to do a murder-suicide). :whatever:
It says something about the arrogance of that gun-grabbers' site's owners and contributors that they know they can publish obvious BS as factoids and know that their target info-consumers are too credulous to smoke out and call them on their games & lies. Ingraham came close to calling them out - identifying his source as anti-gun, and pointing out their definitions-changing game - but he called their redefinition "useful". But Ingraham then made the mistake of accidentally revealing their game of inflating their stats by including suicides as part of "mass shootings".
Nice to know my BS detector wasn't giving a false reading when it pegged on CCD's "mass shootings" factoid. The remaining question is whether CCD knew the gun-grabbers' and the WashPost's "mass shootings" stats were inflated or was CCD one of the credulous taken in by the gun-grabbers' and the WashPost's arrogant lies. The answer isn't critical, but I derive amusement from understanding the sources of my amusement.

That's also another way for the infants to inflate US stats vs. the EuroUtopias. Unless I am seriously wrong, the Euros do not include suicides in homicide stats.
