I was called "elderly" today by a 13 year old kid.

I'm only 60 years old.

I told him I was going to go get my cane and beat him with it. Somehow I don't think he believed me. (He's a neighborhood kid who likes to stop by and chat with me when he sees me outside. I've known him about 3 years.)

Dayum, I feel elderly.

1. I'm 61 and a few months ago

the young woman who does the hair washing at the salon where I get my hair cut was telling me a story about a crazy old man she saw in San Francisco. She went on and on and then said he HAD to have been 60years old. It was really funny when I told her how old I am since I was in there to try and get my hair bleached out because I WANT them to take my hair to grey hair and did not have any. LOL, she didn't stop for a minute.

Funny isn't it?

2. I guess I thought 60 was old when I was that age as well.

At 42, I'm thinking that it's possible that someone who is 60 could be my older sibling.

It's all a matter of perspective.

My mom and dad are 63. They still seem vibrant and healthy to me. I don't think of them as old.

3. When I really started to feel old

was 20 or so years ago, when I was talking with a young associate lawyer I worked for about my seeing the Beatles in Shea Stadium in 1965. (I don't know how we got on that subject except he was interested in entertainment law) ANYWAY, his reaction to my story was "Oh I wish I had been alive then!" Thanks, kid. :-/

11. 73 in January. Nah, not old.

We are maturing nicely, full bodied, with a sassy after glow and we look splendid in purple.

Elderly is nothing to be ashamed of -- it's a victory.

14. Yesterday, my wife was talking to some professor at a café here in Vancouver

He was a fellow German who had done a biking tour through British Columbia. He looked like an older guy, I figured between 8 and 12 years older than we are (63). Turns out the guy was 59, and here I was looking at him as if her were a generation older.

Moral of the story, it's all relative, and it's all perception.

Those sexagenarians can decide to be old. I'm not. I walked/ran a 10K last weekend and have a half to prepare for in a couple of weeks - different from that 63YO German guy, but same principle. He's older than them but able to walk circles around them because he decided to do the work it took to get where he is, physically (and mentally, the two are not unrelated).

No one is guaranteed tomorrow, not a 90YO, not a 60YO, not a 10YO. That matters less than what you do with what you have and are.

Don't call them old, but I'll bet each one of them thinks they should be allowed to retire at 60.

Yet, you are still posting at DU. Maybe you should make peace as you get older.

You are still bitter and posting at DU. Why? I see. You are a bitter person who clings to the 1960s. GET OVER IT!
