That our freedoms are becoming more and more restricted.
The last 2 times I bought a house, and signed a mortgage, the process wasn't easy or fast, but it wasn't overly aggravating.
Now I'm told I have to have proof of employment...
Last 2 pay slips...
Not my last 2 direct deposits, no...even though I am on direct deposit at the same bank that is writing my mortgage...
Last 2 statements from all financial institutions where funds reside towards the down payment...
Cash will not be accepted in any form...
If I have any cash on hand I will have to account for it by depositing it for a minimum of 2 months...
If that 2 months is past the close date, tough...those funds cannot be used towards the mortgage...
Copies of receipts for taxes paid at my current residence...
Copies of receipts for insurance paid at my current residence...
Vouching by my banker, whom I have known for over 15 years is of no consequence...
I am told it is all as a result of the housing meltdown.
Now all mortgage applicants will have to be examined with a fine tooth comb, and prove they are not a terrorist, drug dealer, money launderer, or layabout.
MTF
Anyone else see tangible examples of our freedoms being eroded ?
We shouldn't have to prove we're not criminals to enter into a financial agreement.

Banks LOL
Try to go get YOUR CASH from a bank. If it's more then a few thousand you need an act of congress. Tried last week from a bank and they SAID NO! Not my bank and the check wasn't in six figures. This was a cashiers check from THAT BANK! They REFUSED to cash the check.
The last house I sold I demanded cash payment (took an additional 5 days for the attorneys to work this out with the bank, the cash was at the bank at time of closing) because the one before that took over three weeks to clear. Yes a cashiers check. All the same bank, the buyer, myself and both attorneys. I went to the house I sold and demanded the new folks leave the premises until I was paid, needless to say I was escorted off the property by the local law.
But just for future reference if you are selling a house Do Not Allow the buyers to take possession until all funds CLEAR. Why should you have to wait 3 plus weeks for YOUR MONEY.

My wife works with bank mortgages every day....I'm going to show her this and ask her about this.
Hey, I'm sorry I don't know more but I just let her fuss about her job, the problems and the "A"holes she has to deal with every day. She never gives me any details, just generalities, so I pretend to be interested so we can keep the excellent health insurance. :-)
Last week some woman called and cussed the wife out several times because she wouldn't release some funds. It wasn't the wife's fault. The woman's lawyer was out of town and didn't leave his office with the correct paper work to cover things while he was gone....but it was all the wife's fault like Bush's fault, you know.

No kidding. Withdraw your own money in amounts below the Federal reporting limit, and you will have the Feebs up your ass with a microscope. Do it more often than the Feebs like, and they accuse you of trying to conceal your own private transactions from Mother Government's benevolent gaze- and it's off to prison with you!

I don't know about current regulations but used to be any withdrawal over 10,000.00 had to be accounted for and reported. The fact that quick cash isn't available is deeply concerning and indicates to me that people are taking cash and moving into gold, silver or real estate and Big Brother wants to be able to track it. Head for the hills my friends. Just my humble opinion of course.

Yup the Guvmit wants to know what you are doing with YOUR MONEY at all times. Wonderful isn't it?

Last Monday I sold some stock -- about $20K worth. Thought I'd link a bank account to the brokerage account and transfer the proceeds.
After them dicking around for more than a week, I called Fidelity and told 'em to cut me a check. Stop ****ing around with my money.
We'll see what happens.

Has Obama not printed enough money ????????????

You can thank 2 things:
* The democrat-driven housing market meltdown. The gummint got so badly burned they now have gone other way. It is essentially Sarbaines/Oxley for mortgages.
* Drug lords in Mexico and South America. They think any transfer of money is laundering.

Don't forget the speculators, and the reparations people who bought houses without even having a job or any income.

Well, the wife says if you don't like it now, just wait until October.....new regulations go into effect then...and then things get worse.
-
I don't like it at all.
And I certainly don't love it, not even one little bit.
So where do you think that leaves me ?

I'm just waiting for someone to fight that "structuring" charge and say "So, I have to report deposits or withdrawals over $10k, because I might be laundering money, but if I deposit or withdraw under $10k, I'm going to be fined for not reporting a transaction you say is below the legal limit. How is that not equivalent to 'I know you aren't over the legal limit, but I'm going to arrest you for DUI anyway, because you might have been trying to not drive drunk.'?"

We bought a new house about 3 years ago. I received an inheritance, paid off all our debts, paid off the house we lived in, and put down 1/2 of the price of the new house. Went to the same bank that we'd just paid our mortgage in full (and had never had a late payment) for the other half of the new house...unbelievable what all we had to do and have to get another mortgage from the same bank we'd been paying for 10 years. :mental: I am sure it will only get worse and worse...

Forget about the money I am in the process of selling my house now and this time may just ask for gold as payment. Just imagine the wrinkle that would throw into their craw.
Has anyone ever done the math on how much the banks make by HOLDING YOUR MONEY for 2-3 weeks for free? ::)

Michael Savage has a new book out about how dealing with cash makes you immediately suspect of being a criminal.
"The Secret War".
-
You are not making me feel warm and fuzzy considering we just sold our house and are waiting for the new one to be built.

Over half of the money printed goes overseas. I have read that there is a shortage of cash flowing thru the US. People are hoarding cash and taking it out of the country.
None of this makes any sense to me. The more the government tries to regulate, the more people resist.

Centralized planning hardly ever works.
But that won't stop the bureaucrats from trying.

We've had that problem with Fidelity too, twice. We don't even bother anymore & just have them send the check.

Yeah, I did, and they did. Check's now drawing interest and compounding elsewhere.

Update,
I'm told I need to provide info on an IRA,
A terms and conditions form,
A no employment gap letter
A letter explaining why my 2014 income was greater than my 2013 income.
The loan writers keep couching their requests for info with..."okay".
I am saying, no..it's not okay.
I don't want to provide any information if it's optional.

Can you go to a different lender or is this pretty much standard? Haven't had to do this for a while. The closest we came was refinancing when interest rates went down but it's the same company so we did nothing.

They keep saying it's regulation based on the mortgage meltdown.
I might start asking them to show me these ubiquitous "regulations".
