Need some advice, it's something of an emergency
My son lives homeless in San Jose, California. I live in Florida. He messaged me from the library that his bag was stolen and his phone and all of his I.D. is gone. I can't wire him money, because without identification he can't pick it up. I've ordered him a birth certificate, but it won't get here till next week.

Does anyone have any ideas or advice on what he should do? We could only text for 15 minutes because he didn't have his library card. Yep, it was in the stolen bag. I am trying to research some ideas, and he will contact me at 5.

I'm not asking for anything other than advice and ideas. He seems terrified.

Real caring sort you are.

4. Have him go to a police station and report what happened

They should be able to help him get at least a temporary ID/put him in contact with social services

7. I'll suggest that

I was also thinking his doctor's office might have copies. He is HIV positive and has lost his meds, too.

I bet he can find a bath house to stay in.  :whatever:

How long before the Go fund me page is set up?

Other parents would drive/fly to San Jose to help their own child.

Western Union will let the sender and recipient use a password or phrase to allow people without an ID to receive money.

:II: Yeah, they would.

EDIT:
OK, so I rowed over there.

10. I'd like to add one thing, after my brother had his experience. He had the habit of carrying all his ID (dr lic, 2 passports, BC, etc.) in a small bank deposit bag. He'd go from one place to another, carrying this bag. Naturally, one day he left the bag somewhere and it was all lost. He replaced the stuff, bought another bag, and -- soon lost that bag and all his stuff AGAIN.

...and we wonder why so many people seem to be destined for the government dole.  International Man of Mystery with 2, count 'em TWO passports, in a bank deposit bag.

:thatsright:

Quote
As a way to prevent loss in the future, maybe you could buy him a wallet and encourage him to keep his important ID on his person? He would be much less likely to lose important stuff that way.

6. If there is a church in your area that has a strong homeless outreach program...

...I would ask them for ideas as they may have seen similar situations before.

There they go again.  Spew hate about Christians all day long, but where do they turn when things get desperate?

Homeless and HIV positive are pretty dire straits.  Why doesn't she have him come home?

Just in case one or more DU-folk wander into this thread ... SJPD is likely to suggest this, but City Team Ministries (http://www.cityteam.org/) has a very broad scope outreach to homeless people. It's one of those relief ministries run by Evangelical Christians that doesn't get covered by the MSM, except occasionally at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

That the guy has lost his stuff a couple of times before suggests the possibility that this is what happened this time, and that the guy has some sort of mental or chemical dependency stuff going on. I'm not mocking, just inferring from what has been posted on DU (and assuming it's real) factors that have not been posted that complicate helping the guy.

Why doesn't CalPig take him in? I'm sure she's got a spare bedroom.

If I have my pants on, I got drivers license, money, insurance card and at least two pocket knives.....otherwise, I feel naked. And that has been the case for the last 55 years.

I was going to point out that exact same thing. I have wired money to my daughter using a password because she had lost her military ID and was having some difficulty getting a new one.

I call shenanigans on this tale.

This Kate bitch is an especially nasty atheist. In her defense, the asshole does only live in a two-bedroom (oceanfront) condo in St. Augustine.

That settles it for me. Stupid mother and worthless offspring. I'm sure between them they almost have one whole brain cell.

Something tells me the dummie's son is a heroin addict. Probably got stoned and someone stole his bank bag... or he sold it for his next fix.

I have very little sympathy any more for these people. They are idiots, procreated and raised more idiots.  As far as I am concerned everything that happens to these worthless idiots they deserve because it is their own damned fault.

Why wouldn't the dummy call collect? I know pay phones are fewer and farther between, but most libraries have at least one. No one has asked the DUmmy why she won't provide a place to stay for her HIV positive homeless son? What kind of mother allows her sick son to live on the streets?

A DUmmie mother, obviously. They believe the government is responsible for their children. That is if they don't kill them in the womb first.

Why didn't dear old mom send some cash through the mail? What good is sending his birth certificate if he doesn't have the money to pay for getting an ID?

Yep, she's a liberal.  Got that crazy glassy-eyed stare and gaping mouth.  Wonder if she is related to Calpiggy?

I've been listening to Savage more than I ever used to lately.  He has become much more conversational & enjoyable.  But I heard him get a little pissed off this past week, & use that term again.

What the hell kind of mother would allow her child to live on the streets, especially one with HIV. He wouldn't be in this situation if she would act like a mother. Then again she's a liberal and may be such a harpy shrew her son would rather be homeless than be within 10 feet of her.

Cindie, if her son has psych problems - e.g. schizophrenia - it's entirely possible that he is doing so of his own volition. And they live a whole continent apart, so it's not like she can drive downtown and pick him up. Current mental health laws make it very difficult for relatives to get some one committed involuntarily or to get conservatorship.

It's likely that "allow" is not applicable in this case ... assuming it's real and not a scam.

The liberal shrew appears to be practicing a form of late term abortion.

If any of my siblings or nieces/nephews were in trouble (as much as they don't give a shit about me), I would fly there to help -- and I have a lot of resources (starting with my life wisdom) to work it out.

Libtards only care until they have to pony up real $$ or time.  THEN -- it is all on the other taxpayers!

Liberals have poor relationship with family. There is estrangement.

Liberals are always bitter and complaining about injustices.

I would still go there and try. How could I not? Mental illness, drugs or not. This is a child I carried in my womb instead of allowing butchers to carve him up and sell him to the highest bidder. I would do ANYTHING for my sons, ANYTHING!

The same exact kind of liberal mother that would kill him in the womb because it interfered with her nightlife.

I'm sorry but I'm a realist now. I don't care if the black cities controlled by black people kill hundreds of black people. NOT MY PROBLEM. Done caring.

Same for the homeless and their problems I'm supposed to care about endlessly. **** EM. DONE.

All of the victim classes can EAT SHIT and DIE. $22 TRILLION and SHIT RESULTS. Now we don't have a space program because I have to fund the left half of the bell curve. I'm done with that.
