Title: primitives discuss shutting off air conditioning

Oh my.

The gouty primitive, the old guy with the bought wife, although whatever she cost him, she's probably worth it.

A thought experiment: Stop using air-conditioning

except in hospitals, airplanes and old folks homes.

Let's add public transport because of the odor factor.

But automobiles would no longer have A/C. The rest of us just have to suck it up.

Initially, this would mean that Las Vegas, Dubai, etc, revert to the actual deserts that they are as opposed to the virtual deserts that they are.

Please discuss.

Too many primitive comments to copy and paste, so only a few, selected at random:

57. Some parts of this country are steam baths

and they pretty much need AC, if only to dry out.

I live in an arid climate over a mile up. I haven't set up my evaporative cooler for two years now, the occasional day has been bad but not too many of them. Going around with wet hair and a wet towel around my neck has worked just fine.

Honestly, the only way I could survive Houston without AC is with a super insulated house and multiple dehumidifiers and if I was going to do that, I might as well just put in the AC.

I wouldn't need it in the car if the cheapass bastards hadn't taken the side vents away from us. That single side window that doesn't direct the air flow is what causes us to need AC in the cars.

13. No thanks. I lived in the San Bernardino valley before there

was air conditioning anywhere except in the movie houses. My mother and I used to go to the matinees in the summer to cool off from 100+ degree heat. Even though there were some ways of cooling off (I used to fill the bath with cold water and go soak in it), air conditioning is a great invention although I don't have it now because I live on the coast that seldom has too many too hot to stand days in the summer.

39. AC is good for my health.

However, my air conditioner has remained unplugged for years. My doctor reminds me that my breathing would be easier with it. I remind him that, unless he's willing to pay for it, it stays unplugged. Such is reality for seniors and others on small fixed incomes. There really are those for whom a simple health-bringing comfort falls into the category of out-of-reach luxury.

^^^been riding first-class on the disability gravy train since 1992.

Many of the primitives quoted temperatures and heat indexes from where they're at; none of them came even close to what it's like here in Nebraska.  Wimps.

No matter what the thread's about, some DUmmies can never resist bragging to the DUmp.

They remind me of the pre-breadline Pam Dawson subtly working in a mention of her latest Gucci purse.

the Xterra and cleaning the pool....

18. Why? I was having Quartz countertops put in the kitchen today

And the glue was overwhelming so I shut off the air and opened the sliding glass doors.

You KNOW this is a lie.

What DUmmie can resist the temptation to sniff glue, and not even have to unscrew the lid off the tube!

178. The rise of the South and the West has been the downfall of this country. Brought to you by AC. nt

The decay of the big shithole northern cities have been the downfall of this country.  Brought to you by the democrat party.

Apparently the 951-Riverside primitive's a proponent of mass extermination as a means of population "control."

I can't help but notice that the humans who like to go on about the need to reduce the human population always seem to be talking about other humans.

197. And who would be the ones you'd like to see as the

first to go in the reduction of the population? I'm always curious about that when people make these declarations. Do tell.

188. That's the kind of question they never answer.

Outside of comprehensive sex education and availability of contraception, these "population control" methods tend to end up a little...eugenics-y.

191. Exactly. Oh, well.

I did my part in deciding not to have children. I always wonder what these "lower the population" folks have in mind. As you say, though, they never actually answer the question. I imagine they have other people than themselves as the ones who should disappear, somehow.

Now that is some population control I can support!

36. We're talking about air conditioning.

One can always put on more clothes or huddle for warmth.

One can only take off so much or spend a limited amount of time submerged in cool water.

Well, there you have it, Frank.  You've been doing it wrong all these years, up there in Nebraska.

I had second degree burns from extreme heat and I am

allergic to my own sweat.

Well, ok.

Does anyone want to put a wager on whether this primitive has tried to collect on its "disability"?

When I see the gloves come off so fast with topics like these in the DUmp,
I wonder if I could make any money opening a boxing gym and let them lace them up and have at it.
