The slave is beaten for making his master uncomfortable.
The slave asked for his freedom, the master was reminded by this request that the master was a terrible person who owns people, and this made him terribly uncomfortable and angry that he was uncomfortable.
He wasnt used to being uncomfortable, especially at the hands of his slave.

And I will explain why, using facts that any curious person can easily uncover for himself.
Randy is apparently the co-owner of a business which has existed in its current form since 1967. Randy is in his very early 60's. I will save you the arithmetic and get straight to the punchline:
Randy's father started the business, and it was (evidently) passed down to Randy. Randy's father appears to have been exactly the sort of hard-working, salt-of-the-earth, industrious, enterprising, and altogether honorable man so common in his generation. By contrast, it would appear that Randy has done little with his life other than hang around the same lily-white, antiseptic environs, and indeed there is no evidence that Randy even bothered to acquire a college degree. Why would he, when his father's business would fall into his lap? And don't make me cite the Dun & Bradstreet estimates: it's a productive business.
At some point Randy decided that he would distract himself from that business and from his evolving collection of handmade Swiss watches and take up the struggles of certain people about whom he knows nothing, and of whom he almost certainly knows very few. I don't know when this time was, but it is evident from his posts as 'Randys1' and 'NoJusticeNoPeace' that at least since Mike Brown was justly killed in Ferguson, he has lost his mind. I'm not a psychiatrist, but it's not unreasonable to look at the mound of evidence and infer that Randy feels enough guilt over his enormous privilege that he needs to spread it around to all white people. I know what you're saying: gee, can't he spread MONEY around, instead? Well, I only said that Randy is mentally ill, not that he's crazy. Randy means to assuage his enormous guilt over his presence in life's Winner's Circle by pointing the finger at all of you.
I am now bored of citing examples and pointing to evidence. By now you should know that if you have a nickel's worth of "white privilege," Randy has a dollar's worth. And in fact, he may literally have a dollar to each of your nickels. Randy knows exactly nothing about the struggles of any person on earth, anywhere. Not the Mike Browns of the world, not the Eric Garners, none of the "AfAms" he idolizes, and not even you. He is nothing like you. He can rattle on about privilege because he has the luxury of doing so. I do so wish that when he runs off at the mouth, at least ONE of you would have the courage to call him out. I've read DU long enough to know that you won't: you people love your hypocrisy (that's the actual spelling of a word most of you insist is spelled 'h-y-p-o-c-r-a-c-y') and wouldn't give it up for the world.
Don't be fooled by this idiot. He is the owner and curator of one of the largest private collections of White Privilege on DU.

Whew! That lets me out! I know I need to wear sunscreen when I do half marathons and longer training. I'm very aware of my skin color and the potential consequences of not wearing sunscreen.
Moronicity like r1's should be seriously painful. I'm sure there are neighborhoods near him whose denizens would gladly do that while relieving him of a few of his objets-d'-guilt.
