"On July 20, 2012, a man wearing body armor and carrying an arsenal of firearms and tear gas fatally shot 12 people and wounded 58 others during a midnight screening at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater. The Brady Center subsequently filed a lawsuit against companies that had supplied the gunman, on behalf of Sandy and Lonnie Phillips, whose daughter, Jessica Ghawi, was killed in the shooting.
The lawsuit alleged that Lucky Gunner (Gun company) and several other companies had negligently supplied the gunman with thousands of rounds of ammunition, body armor, a high-capacity drum magazine that could hold 100 rounds of ammunition, and canisters of tear gas.
In April, a federal court dismissed the lawsuit and Lucky Gunner and other defendants moved to collect attorney's fees from the plaintiffs. On June 17, a judge granted that request, ordering the Phillipses to pay $203,000. The decision is currently under appeal."
Sweet Jesus, this is just so ****in' wrong -

New thread so not much to bring over. The DUmmies who have posted are having a hard time understanding why someone who sells legal items, and wins a lawsuit against them for selling said items, should be reimbursed for the $200,000 they had to defend themselves against these idiots.
It could be fun, hope I don't kill it.

If the Brady Center pushed the suit they should be the ones to pay. Maybe if this happens enough it will stop this lawfare from happening so much.

Good.

Squabble squabbling commenced imediately.
Most were in support of the ruling.

'Bout damn' time this 'Litigate them out of business' bullshit got slapped down.

I remember Madcow had them on her show and was talking to these people during her two minute's hate (damn AFN and its 'balanced' programming), they just seemed stunned that the courts didn't rule in their favor.
Is it sad that their daughter died? Yes. Is the psychopath who did it being held responsible in court? So far, yes. Then why would you go after a company who was acting within the limits of the law and had NO IDEA that the guy was crazy any more than anyone ELSE did prior to his doing it?
The only reasons I can see, is either you're capitalizing off your child's death and trying to get a windfall (AKA the st. Trayvon of the skittles gambit) or you are pushing a political agenda. Both of which do NOTHING to bring their daughter back.
I'm sure their lawyer advised them that this was a possibility, and they didn't think it would go that way, because 'pain and suffering'!!!!!!!!ELEBINTY!!!! Now they have to struggle to pay the bill that THEY brought about seeking 'social justice'. :rotf:

James Holmes should be sued into oblivion. He should also be six feet under.

That's awesome.
Clearly Dummy liberals trying to hold innocent gun shops accountable for a murderer.
-
I wish you could have plaintiffs pay fees for all bullshit lawsuits.
-
This is how it works, DUmmies -
One cannot sue a business and expect to win unless the products offered are defective, undelivered as promised, or not as advertised. - Suing a business because their products are 'icky' almost never wins.

They will never admit that it was their stupid policies that have generated so many mass shooters/murderers.

Lucky gunner is donating the settlement to a gun rights organization that the public was allowed to vote on. I am happy to say my own Virginia Citizens Defense League has apparently won the vote!

Some attorneys are so unscrupulous.
Some clients are delusional.
When one meets the other, it's a windfall for the lawyer.

I'm saddened for the families of everyone that insult-to-horses'-anuses killed, but if they try to parlay their grief into a bypass of the Constitution or for cash, I have zero sympathy. Every party to that frivolous lawsuit should be made to pay for the defendants' costs of defense, plus substantial punitive damages (which are designed to punish egregious behavior such as frivolous lawsuits).
