An Open Letter to Mike "The Huckster" Huckabee
RE your comment “Jesus Wept†upon hearing the SCOTUS decision on same-sex marriage
Being as you deign to know what Jesus would actually weep about, I have a few questions for you.
Jesus admonished His followers to feed the hungry. How much does He weep when your party consistently votes for measures that deny food stamps to hungry Americans, especially hungry children? How upset do you suppose He gets when Republicans actually make feeding the homeless a crime?
Jesus bade his followers to care for the sick. How many tears has He shed as he’s watched Republicans repeatedly attempt to destroy Obamacare, which actually allows the sick to be cared for? How many times has He wept unabashedly as your party turns its back on disabled veterans (disabled fighting a war that your party pursued and championed, by the way) by claiming their medical and rehabilitation costs are an “entitlement†the country simply can’t afford?
Jesus told his followers to shelter the homeless. How much has He wailed as people like yourself demonize the “least among us†by declaring them lazy parasites unworthy of notice, no less actual assistance? How many nights has The Nazarene cried himself to sleep as homeless Americans are mocked, spat upon, and chased from the streets on which they are forced to live because people like you refuse to help them in any way?
You know, if you actually read the New Testament (which apparently you haven’t), you would know that Christ never once spoke out against homosexuality – not once. Maybe He was too busy to opine on the topic, what with actually feeding the hungry and caring for the sick and all. But it would seem rather far-fetched that if He thought it was such an “abomination before Godâ€, He wouldn’t have managed at least a negative comment or two during his entire lifetime.
You really should acquaint yourself with Christ’s teachings, Huckster. He was a rather remarkable fellow. He said a lot of things you could really learn from – like loving one’s neighbour, being our brother’s keeper, doing unto others as we would have done to ourselves – ya know, all the stuff you and your ilk choose to ignore while focusing instead on what He never said about gays and lesbians.
If you are going to hold yourself out as knowing what Jesus would weep about, it might be a good idea to first familiarize yourself with who He was, what He stood for, and what He actually said.
Oh, and just by the way – while remaining completely mute on the topic of homosexuality, Christ had quite a few choice comments about those who would mislead the faithful by pretending to speak in His name. You might want to take a really close look at those particular passages. It’s almost as though he had you in mind when he warned his followers about those who would spew utter bullshit under the guise of speaking on His behalf. It was like He was downright prescient, that Christ guy – able to foresee the likes of you and your fellow “Christiansâ€, over 2,000 years before the fact, speaking out against everything He exemplified, while pretending to do so on His behalf.
I am not even a Christian – and yet I seem to be far more acquainted with Christ’s message than you are. Do you have any explanation whatsoever for why that would be the case?
Just wonderin'.

Speaking of those who would spew utter bullshit under the guise of speaking on His behalf. She rambles on and on and lets us all know how well acquainted she fancies herself with Christ's teachings. I'm not going to check out every fool claim she makes--anybody who would spend any amount of time checking out the veracity of a claim made by a primitive has time to waste. One thing she says that sticks out to me is her claim that Jesus said something about being our brother's keeper. My only recollection about a brother's keeper is from a long time before Jesus came when God asked Cain about where Abel was and Cain told God that he wasn't his brother's keeper. While I figure that she's spewing utter bullshit under the guise of speaking on His behalf, the other primitives are lapping it up.

Simple answer? Jesus did not say create a government entity to do those things.
Remember: Thou shalt not steal. Arbitrarily legislated taxation, is theft. I have yet to come across anything where Jesus said: "Take from one and give to the other."
Sorry, Wordsmith..... :bird:
Since he probably doesn't come to DU
Sheyah......ya think? Even your insane, grotesque hero aLaNgRaYsoN!!111 doesn't go there.
He sends his flunkies to fleece you. :lmao:

As for the first few bolded comments, since you are "far more acquainted with Christ's message" than others show me the place in the Bible where He instructed the government INSTEAD OF INDIVIDUALS to take from others to give to those in need.
As for the last bolded comment let's look at what Jesus said about marriage.
[Mat 19:1-6 NLT] 1 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went down to the region of Judea east of the Jordan River. 2 Large crowds followed him there, and he healed their sick. 3 Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question: "Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason?" 4 "Haven't you read the Scriptures?" Jesus replied. "They record that from the beginning 'God made them male and female.' 5 And he said, 'This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.' 6 Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together."

Darn you and your use of logic and facts! Now what are we supposed to do?! (/DUmode off)

The Socialists have replaced God with an all providing govt. Political rivals are their blasphemers. Socialists have always despised the Church as a rival they cannot control. Socialists allow for no voice of dissent, no alternate parties, no media that is not controlled by the state.
The god socialists worship claims to be beneficent, but it is cruel and unforgiving. Bloody purges mark every socialist govt. Murder becomes the govt solution to all unrest. Tyranny, brutal repression, and slavery are the legacies of socialism.
This is the false god that NanceGreggs would compare to Jesus.
Sorry Nance, but resisting your god is freedom, not sin. All the benefits your god bestows are tied to votes to the democrat party. your compassion is slavery.
I will follow the real Jesus, and the true God. Thank you.

Some shall bend their knees, some will be knocked to their knees well beforehand.

Quite, Our Lord dealt with the issues which were presented to him - funnily enough I don't imagine that there were many gay-pride parades at the time. His teaching on sex and marriage actually represents a tightening of the foregoing Mosaic law as well (S. Luke 16:18).

Jesus admonished His followers to feed the hungry. How much does He weep when your party ...
...
Jesus bade his followers to care for the sick. How many tears has He shed as he’s watched Republicans repeatedly ...
Ummmmm ...... NG ..... Jesus' commands are - as you stated without realizing the significance of what you wrote - to His followers. Not to governments. Not to political parties. Not commanding his followers to use the power of government to do those things using the money of non-believers. Instructing believers what they should, themselves, do as part of their ordinary lives.
You know, if you actually read the New Testament (which apparently you haven’t), you would know that Christ never once spoke out against homosexuality – not once.
...
You really should acquaint yourself with Christ’s teachings, Huckster. He was a rather remarkable fellow. He said a lot of things you could really learn from ...
NG, follow your own advice. Read what He said, not what you wish He had said. And by the way, on multiple occasions Jesus affirmed the rightness of the Law of Moses. You know, the Law of Moses that condemns homosexual acts as abominations. In particular ... you know that sermon you love so well ... the one where Jesus spoke of, "Judge not ..." ... the one where Jesus spoke of "turning the other cheek" ... the one where Jesus spoke of, "Do unto others" ... the one where Jesus spoke of, "Blessed are the peace-makers"? Jesus said, in that same sermon:
Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter will pass from the law until everything takes place. So anyone who breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever obeys them and teaches others to do so will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Like some one said, "You really should acquaint yourself with Christ’s teachings ... He said a lot of things you could really learn from." Worry less about what ministers who you'll probably never meet know and understand; worry more about what you know and understand, NG.

Homosexuality was pervasive in the Ancient Greeks and Romans. It was considered higher form of love.

While Rome - and before them, Greeks - ruled Galilee, Samaria, and Judea, Jesus lived in a Jewish society. OTOH, the well known comments by Paul were written to believers in Rome and Corinth - Roman and Greek societies - and Paul was brought up in a Greek society.

Oh, but Nance Christ did say,
4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.â€
Also Nance, when Christ told his followers to feed and care for the poor he was speaking to Christians and letting them know what was expected of them. Christ was not demanding that the governments do these things (unless they were Christian government) but I'm sure he wouldn't mind if they do their part too. I am sure that Huckabee has done more than his share as a Christian to feed the poor.
The government is not in a position to determine who is really poor and who is abusing the system. Christians who are on the ground, working with these people are. The Bible also teaches us not to assist those who are capable of assisting themselves they these people are in fact robbing from the poor by taking from them what would go to people who really need it. Thus, voting against food stamps isn't necessarily a anti-Christian thing to do.

That isn't actually true. Marriage in both societies was defined as being between a man and a woman. Also Roman society accepted the practice of older men having short term homosexual relationships with younger men in a mentoring experience but these relationships were considered socially unacceptable as the young men got older. Some philosophers did hold up male homosexual relationships has been greater than male female ones but this was not accepted by the cultures at large.

I know there was no gay marriage back than.

Nope, I counted 6.129 seconds.
Which is 7 seconds longer than I'd mourn for any DUmmie.
