Title: More on the flag and the south
Post by: FlippyDoo on June 27, 2015, 09:03:00 PM
The more I’ve thought about this “rebel flag” deal the more agitated I’ve become. When you travel around this part of the south you see the “rebel flag” in a lot of places. It’s on bumper stickers, window decals, t-shirts, novelty license plates, coffee cups, and may other items. I can’t speak for every single person who owns an item with a “rebel flag” on it, but I can talk about the many individuals who I know personally who have one or more “rebel flag” items. All of them are good and decent people who, unlike the DUmmies and other liberals, would give the shirt off of their back to help anyone of any race, gender or religion who was truly in need. These people do not display the flag out of hatred. They display it out of pride. They are proud of their heritage. Unfortunately, those of us from the south are some of the few who are not allowed to be proud of our heritage.

Let’s talk for a minute about southern heritage. Despite what the left would have you believe it has nothing to do with race. Nothing whatsoever.  Southern heritage is about family and friends. It’s about appreciating what you’ve worked hard to accomplish. It’s about appreciating the outdoors around us. It’s about lending a helping hand when it’s needed. Of course none of that matters to the politically correct crowd. All that matters is that a murdering lunatic took a picture with a “rebel flag” and a handful of idiots who like to dress in table cloths sometimes carry it around.

Let me be sure that this is clear. We are NOT suppose to judge Islam because thousands of Islamic terrorists are murdering people. We are NOT supposed to judge blacks, hispanics, nor any other left-sanctioned minority by what their members do. But it is perfectly okay to take a broad brush and paint every person that has anything that is “rebel flag” related as being racist and/or full of hate.

I wonder if I go into Walmart, Target or any of the other stores who have banned “rebel flag” items would I find “music” CDs calling for the murder of police, degrading women, crimes against “whitey”? If so, why is one acceptable and the other is not?

Back to the southern heritage thing. A lot of people don’t really know anything about the south. All that they know is what the MSM has told them or what they see on television. I was wondering what I could do to give an idea of what the south and southern heritage is about. Then I remember an old favorite song by the Bellamy Brothers. While looking for it on YouTube I found a video that someone made using the song that gives a perfect example of the south. I have it below with the lyrics to the song after the video. I urge you to take a listen and read.

I might not always be a fictional spirit-guide, but I’ll always be southern and proud of it regardless of who it offends.

"You Ain't Just Whistlin' Dixie"
written by David Bellamy

Pine trees grow so tall in the bright sunshine
A young boy steals his daddy's fishin' line
An alligator lays on the banks of a riverbed
And if you didn't know any better you'd swear he's dead.

Now these are a few things I'm in love with
A small part of the reason I go back
To Carolina, Mississsippi, Florida, gorgeous Georgia
Now if you think I'm happy down there you're on the right track.

And you ain't just whistlin' Dixie
You ain't just slappin' your knee
I'm a grandson of the Southland
An heir to the Confederacy.

You ain't just whistlin' Dixie
'Cause the cattle call's callin' me home
So put me down there where I wanna be
Plant my feet with Robert E. Lee.
Bury my bones under a cypress tree
And never let me roam.

And you ain't just whistlin' Dixie
You ain't just slappin' your knee
I'm a grandson of the Southland
An heir to the Confederacy.

Cotton balls gleam and the cow gives cream
For the baby's sake
Pa comes in full of gin
And he's mean as a rattlesnake.

And if the well runs dry
and we cry and cuss the garden hose
Mama draws a bucket full of creek water
Just to wash our clothes.

Now these are a few things I'm in love with
A small part of the reason I go back
To Carolina, Mississsippi, Florida, gorgeous Georgia
Now if you think I'm happy down there you're on the right track...

Very much so.

Hi5, I'm from the north originally, but I've lived in the south for over 13 years now in Georgia and North Carolina. The people in these states have always been good to me and mine even though I'm a 'damn carpetbagging yankee'.

The pride they express is a pride in a country they love. A country that's liberal media seems dead set on rejecting them for that very same love. And if it comes down to it, I side with the southerners on this. Because there is no better place in the world to be than America, still to this day. I believe in it, even though America is trying to find her way through this minefield that these idiots have put us in.

John Stuart Mill said it best:
Quote
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice, — is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.

That sums up the liberals to a tee.

Wonderfully said FlippyDoo. It breaks my heart to see the South being degraded as full of backwoods racists. I love the South; and I love my country as well.

You'd be hard pressed to find a segment of the population more patriotic than southerners. I do not see any conflict or hypocrisy in raising the Stars and Bars along side the Star Spangled Banner.

I am what would commonly be called 'a Yankee.'  I view this as a big insult, as I am not a Yankees fan.  :censored:

I really should order one of those flags.  My area is pretty conservative, so I don't think that there would be much problem here.  Across the river in Albany, it'd be a different story.

You know... a battle flag would look great in one of those patterned things you see on the front of barns sometimes.  We're thinking of adding some cattle to the estate so this might be something to consider....

8'x12' flag for about $80....you could just put 4 of those on the walls of a bedroom cheaper than hiring it painted'

The law of unintended consequences.

I have seen more rebel flags flying from vehicles in the past 4 or 5 days than I have in the last 20+ years combined. Saw a video from one small town near here that had a parade of 40 vehicles driving into town flying rebel flags. Most of them also had the US flag.

There's a lesson that could be learned from this flag flap in regards to Americans in general and southerners in specific.
The lesson is that you can politely ask someone to do or not do something and, if the request is reasonable, the person who was asked is somewhat likely to honor the request. On the other hand, if you climb onto your high horse and in a holier-than-thou manner DEMAND that someone do or not do something...well...it's likely not to work out as well for you.

People are like a handful of sand. The tighter government squeezes them the more they run out between government's fingers.

Same here.  Hopefully, I'll have it in time for the Bristol NASCAR race.   :-)

So the libs got all butt hurt about the rebel flag.  Well I seem to recall a good portion of the OWS idiots where wearing Che T-shirts. That offends me since Che was a cold blooded murderer.

Where is the outrage on that?

Personally I could not give two shits about the rebel flag. What I do give two shits about is the obvious hypocrisy of the left in general and the dummies in particular. They can't have it both ways. Either outlaw the Che T-shirts or they can just STFU.

Don't ask me how I know this, because all I know is that I know it.

Today, National Public Radio, at least their Nebraska affiliates, played hours and hours of "traditional and patriotic American music."

One of their selections was....."Dixie."

If it'd been anywhere but Nebraska, I suppose that choice would've been considered controversial.

Dilema.

I doubt anyone is going to burn down the local NPR station.

If it did, I'd use the democrat voter registration records for a list of suspects.
