Let me make one thing very clear: I don’t wear a bikini. In fact, I've never worn a bikini in public until last weekend.
So people may be a little confused as to why I got into a tiny two-piece and paraded around a stage to be judged at a figure competition in Denver.
Well, I had something to prove – to myself.
Since May 2008, I have lost 130 pounds, and I am incredibly proud of myself.

Empowering? Sure. But let's not get those DUmp heifers too jealous, young missy... (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026891772)
I see big BUTS and I cannot lie:

1. Good for her,
but I don't see why she sees the need to parade around in a "figure competition." Even getting recognized for a genuine accomplishment depends on sexism.

2. I am sorry that she was bullied while she was overweight,
But I don't see how this reaction to that is useful.
If it's for her vanity or whatever, that's her right, but I have my right to my opinion of it.
Edited to add that I grew up in the Kennedy fitness years and loathed the coercion aspect. It's why I hate most exercise to this day, and get my back up at the mere implication of "jock."

4. Good for her for losing the weight.
But the bikini competition underscores the fact that women are almost solely valued for their looks and their bodies, not their minds or their accomplishments.
Nothing like a jealous DUmp woman to flush out the But Monkeys.

It's an either or to them eh? I know plenty of women in the professional world who have thier acts together both physically and professionally. Success in one's field whatever it is does not mean ditching ones sense of hygiene and presentability just out of some misguided attempt to obscure the outside to blast the inside. It's all bs anyway. Bunch of jealous cows who don't want to be upstaged on the outside really. What they are most concerned about is all things being equal in a professional setting the woman who bathes, shaves her pits, is not grossly obese, amd is presentable will always win. Too bad. Even big girls can be presentable in the workplace.
As for the I hate exercise to this day thing. Cry me a river. I hated gym class because there were some real butt heads in it. Never stopped me from hiking, swimming, and even teaching group fitness. There are solitary exercise activities if one still has some social anxiety from youth. Hiking being one of the best. Excuses all.

Oh and for the dummies who don't get this. This woman has never been valued for her looks. Her doing what she did is a way to validate that part of herself having never had that positive reinforcement. Ie it's a big boost for her self esteem when it comes to the outside. Anyone who has been heavy a long time gets it. BTW it's bi different from a very attractive woman who has had her looks the center of attention wanting to gain accomplishment for something more then that. People often crave the validation to thier self esteem for aspects of thenselves that have been dismissed previously. What she did it perfectly healthy. Don't see anything overboard. BTW it's also the reason some people run marathons when at one time they got out of breath going up a flight of stairs. Not hard to understand someone seeking to prove something they didn't even believe to themselves. Dummies are so self centered and hateful and hung up on thier own shortcomings to seem to understand this entire concept. People doing well makes them look bad. Total narcissim.

Maybe telling them something they won't do can be done is a micro-aggression?

To the young lady who won, congratulations. You are a role-model for women of all ages to never stop trying and to love yourself.
To all the hating, worthless ass DUches, you only WISH you had the discipline to lose that much weight. This young woman has accomplished a LOT and has much to be proud of. And you are beating her down. It's nice to see the liberal 'REAL war on women' still is being fought... By the liberal women!! Here's an example... Star Member SheilaT (18,044 posts)

She IS being valued for her accomplishment, DUche. The fact she lost 130 POUNDS, almost her current bodyweight, is why she won. It takes a tremendous amount of discipline to lose that much weight. Which explains why none of YOU are skinny (unless drugs are involved)!
For someone who has been overweight and lost it, life has a new flavor. You NEVER want to go back to being overweight. To feeling so bad.
There is a saying on the wall in the gym where I work out 'We all must suffer two things; either the main of discipline, or the pain of regret'. Well DUches, we KNOW which one you suffer from.
So once again, to the young lady, congratulations, to the DUches, GFYS :bigbird:

I hate to say it, but bullying can save a fat person's life, if it motivates them to get off their ass and start doing something about it.
I knew a kid that was playing guard (backup) on my high school football team. He was the biggest wall of fat that I have ever seen. He couldn't lift weights like a big guy. He ran the 40 yard dash painfully slow, and the effort left him out of breath. Anyway, they measured us for body fat composition one day and he came in at 57 percent body fat. Holy cow, his internal organs must have been mostly smashed just about flat. Well he started getting harassed about it. Wouldn't you know, he showed up to the high school reunion as a really in shape guy that no one recognized at a glance. He said that if it hadn't been for all of our harassment, he would have been dead.

What is wrong with wanting to look appealing to the opposite sex,it is a normal thing for a guy or gal?
Guess the normal part is where it breaks down with the DUmbasses.

15. What can I say.
I find higher life expectancy, lower blood pressure, and lower resting heart rates sexy as hell. I'm an active guy. I love a woman who can enjoy the activities I do (running, hiking, etc...). It's an added plus if I can have my partner around for another 20 years or so.
Pathetic fishing for DU cred or mole or a joy boy wasting time posting when he could be out getting married to his same sex partner in the state of his choice?

Competition is something you don't understand and accomplishment is something you've never achieved.

Not your mind. I would be willing to throw down large that the rest is just as nondescript and even repulsive.
