Google testing the waters in Cuba
By Nancy Scola

A Google executive is headed to Cuba this weekend to explore bringing better Internet access to the island, and the search giant has made a related proposal to the Cuban government, according to a State Department official.
It’s the latest sign that U.S. tech companies are testing the seriousness of Cuba’s interest in opening up to outside investment after President Barack Obama’s announcement of a historic thaw in relations and the Raúl Castro-led government’s recent pledge to bring Internet access to all Cubans by 2020.

In Cuba today, only about five percent of the population has Internet access, and cellphone service can be sloth-like where it’s available at all. Google is known for its experimentation with non-traditional ways of spreading the Internet, often routing around incumbent providers. Its Project Loon uses high-altitude balloons to carry access to hard-to-connect places, and Google Fiber has forged partnerships with U.S. cities to sell moderately-priced, ultra-high-speed broadband services.

The Cuba trip has been organized by the Council of the Americas, a 50-year-old trade group founded by David Rockefeller. The group will stay in Habana Vieja, Havana’s charming if crumbling historic section, and is scheduled to return Thursday. The visit coincides with the six-month anniversary of President Obama’s announcement of a thaw in relations with Cuba, including the loosening of sanctions that, said Obama, “have denied Cubans access to technology.â€
Not sure if everyone knows, but Judi Lynn has appointed herself the All Being Master of Time, Space, and Dimension in Latin America matters. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10141117368)
If you dare disagree with her, she'll sniff that you need to go get educated. So naturally she knows what's best for the Cuban people. Like, oh, Castro:

2. This great humanitarian move of 're-opening Cuba would not have happened if
Google, Citibank, Exxon Mobil, Wal-Mart, and Apple were not on board. Wait until the Cubans get to enjoy free market health insurance
Cubans can't even have internet access, you ignorant ****puddles. They look up to YOUR consumer options. Can you imagine?

3. Absolutely!Plans have been in the wings for years to take out every aspect of social service there
and Cubans have known about it for years. They steadfastly insist they will never let that happen, but we already know how the needs, the will of the people are NEVER respected once the great, heavily militarized steamroller gets the upper hand.
The US has never respected Cubans since the 1800's, and probably before! Deepest disrespect. The only respect considered was for the Spanish-descended landowners and their puppet politicians in Havana, the same people who employed the death squads during Batista's time running things.
Two words for you, Judi. No, four: **** You. **** Cuba.
Can you IMAGINE the hubris of some stupid American twat claiming to know the desires of an entire country of people who've been put down by leftist dictators for 60 years?
Cubans would give their eyeteeth for a spoonful of what you have, you elitist **** (or Clintonite...your choice...equally offensive).

This one (Judi Lynn) is a gun hating harridan, in the strictest definition of the word.
Her bossiness, stubbornness, and outright arrogance rival that of 'it that shall not be named', Wielder of the Good Rig, Linguistic Expert, and Senior Village Weeble.

I'm sure that if the free market ever finally does show up in Cuba the people will embrace it. They know what real repression is like and would like nothing more than to be given the chance to use their talents to make a living without the jack boot of government on their throat. Keep in mind these are the same people that risk their life floating in a bathtub across 90 some miles of ocean just to get to the USA. That alone should tell the dumbasses at the dump something.

2. You now what hits me most when I watch Cuba and Cubans
The way in which the state ensured that the population has healthy teeth.
Wonder what imagery that evokes... (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022164107#post2)
Oh yeah:

Seriously, why aren't Google and other tech companies going to Baltimore?
They have one of the highest per capita K-12 spending. That is the ticket for wondrous success right?
Plus Baltimore has people that can more closely speak English.
Why does Obama hate the black people of Baltimore and love the Cubans?

Cubans love living in a DUmp and dang near starving to death because they get free Band-Aids....just like North Koreans.
