WASHINGTON — The political vision of a summer gas tax holiday died a quick death in Congress, losing to a view that federal excise taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel — far from dropping — will have to go up if they go anywhere.
Despite calls from the presidential campaign trail for a Memorial Day-to-Labor Day tax freeze, lawmakers quickly concluded — with a prod from the construction industry — that having $9 billion less to spend on highways could create a pre-election specter of thousands of lost jobs.
Now, lawmakers quietly are talking about raising fuel taxes by a dime from the current 18.4 cents a gallon on gasoline and 24.3 cents on diesel fuel.

9 billion dollars between Memorial Day and Labor Day??!! Day-Um!!
"We the people" are making more profit off oil than the oil companies. "We the people" should be out digging for oil in and backyards. "We the people" should shoot to kill anyone who tries to stand in the way of our oil profits.
"We the people" have a fixed profit built into every gallon of gasoline sold. "We the people" lose money when gas is priced high because not as many gallons are sold. "We the people" should shoot to kill anyone who says we need to "conserve".
(Democrats are screwed, btw)

well, I'm askin the congresscritters to re-consider their tax hike. If gas get too expensive we won't be able to drive. If we are unable to drive then we don't need no daggum highway improvements. Jeez!

cool story. I am going to put this in the news fader.

I ain't askin' my Congress-shits to avoid this legislative abortion. I'm sending off certified letters telling 'em that if they so much as look back in the general direction of this pile of shit when they withhold their support for it, I will make it my mission in life to see to it they're standing in the unemployment line by the end of 2010 (I have a senator up for re-election that year.).

I bet if these critters weren't so piggy, they wouldn't be scrambling to find highway money.

They can find $16,000.00 for flowers to sweeten Nancy Pelosi's office. Imagine that.

Higher gas taxes. That'll help the poor...
-
It'll help the inferiority complexes and power hunger pangs of the 535 poor, 9% underappreciated Congress-shits in Washington.

Hey! You gotta do something to mask the smell of all that shit that passes as 'government' these days. .....and flowers are more "green" than cardboard airfreshners from China, not cheaper but more "green".

For $16,000 they could conjure up William Thornton himself to design a new window.
