School's Kitchen Manager Fired for Giving Hungry Children Free Lunch

AURORA, Colo. — A married mother of two was fired from her job as the kitchen manager at an elementary school in Colorado for giving lunches to students who didn’t have money, CBS Denver reports.
Della Curry was the manager at Dakota Valley Elementary School near Aurora. She told CBS Denver that she would see students — who often times weren’t signed up for free lunch programs — crying because of hunger and no lunch money.
“I had a first grader in front of me, crying because she doesn’t have enough money for lunch,†Curry told CBS. “Yes, I gave her lunch.â€
Typically, students who don’t have lunch and don’t qualify for free or reduced lunch receive one slice of cheese on a hamburger bun, and a small milk. Believing that meal not sufficient, Curry often bought the students lunch with money from her own pocket, she said.

1. These are the kinds of stories that are totally unnecessary and a disgrace.
Trillions for war, pennies for the hungry.
That overlooks the point of liberal policies resulting in her firing.

6. That school and school board are fun by Teahadists.
Not likely in Aurora Colorado.
That slice of cheese on a hamburger bun sounds better than most of the Michelle Obama's meal plan for schools.

There is much evidence to support the old saying "there's no such thing as a free lunch".
-
If, as it said, she bought the free lunches with her own money, there shouldn't have been an issue.
It's just liberal school bureaucrats being liberal school bureaucrats.
And, yeah, the slice of cheese on a hamburger bun sounds better, healthier, and more filling than the lunches forced on kids under Moo- Chelle's "Healthy kids" initiative, all the while Sasha and Malia gorge themselves on decadent gourmet food at their private school.

thanks! Huge HUGE fan of the guy. If you get a chance, you should check out "Free to Choose" if you have even a passing interest in economics.

High five for Milton Friedman.
Free to Choose is an excellent book.

Funny how all politics is local, now. Back in the Bush days everything that went wrong anywhere was Bush's fault.
Someone arrested for using medical pot? Bush
Someone shot by the cops? Bush
A train ran off the tracks? Bush
Starving kids? Bush

Maybe the KFOR article gives more details, but as it was quoted for DU consumption there's almost certainly something missing from the story, something highly relevant. My quick (possibly quite wrong) is that the way this woman did this probably violated some Federal regulation, putting the school's funding for the program as a whole in jeopardy. When the bureaucrats spinning the regulatory threads attached to government live 2000 miles and a galaxy away from the real-life people who have follow the regs (or are looking for ways to circumvent the regs), the practicality of the regs and their connection to real life will almost certainly be minimal and tenuous, respectively.

I ditto that Hi-5. Every DUmmie person should be required to watch that before being allowed to vote.
