It would be nice to hear it straight for once. Stopping climate change means giving up on growth.
*blather*
Those with long memories will know that this isn’t the first time it felt like we were testing the earth’s ability to support us. In 1968, the biologist Paul Ehrlich published The Population Bomb, which prophesied civilizational collapse for societies unable to rapidly bring down their birth rates. There were simply too many people, he argued, for the planet’s dwindling supply of resources. Ehrlich got a vasectomy and preached birth control, though he also advocated for more extreme measures: compulsory sterilization, a ban on cars, and a tax on cribs. Internationally, he proposed “triage,†aiding the countries that remained viable but writing off those, like India, that he saw as too far gone. .......................(more)

edited to add date/time and identity of the OP.
They feel the same about economic growth too. :censored:

2. More than that, we need to decrease our numbers significantly.
I have been an advocate for zero population growth since being a teenager in the 1970's and the evidence that we're ****ing up only grows worse.
One of the reasons I cannot abide a Clinton is that Bill halted efforts to improve vehicle efficiency and did more harm than good by allowing SUVs and Light Trucks to be excepted from the rules.
Anyway, just as the Princeton Wedge game to find ways to end the annual increases in emissions doesn't go far enough (we need to halt and then reverse the trends) it's not enough to end growth, we actually have to reduce.
Of course both parties are pro business, pro growth, and very few people have the courage to speak the truth about it.
Yet you brag about a million plus dollars spent to keep your miserable life going. :bird:

3. It would be hard to run on a platform of "I'm going to make life harder for you and your children."
Even if it is the only way to really save the earth for your grand children and so on.
Bryant
You mean it would be hard to run as a democrat and tell the truth about what they believe.

6. And yet according to DU, the guy who teaches that birth control is from the devil is a progressive
and an environmentalist so very devoted to the good of the planet that one should instantly overlook his raging bigotry against LGBT people.....
Does anyone know if Bluenorthwest is a queer?

7. That's the central point of
Naomi Klein's brilliant book "This Changes Everything." And that's why the reichwingers fight effective remedies do desperately and deny it: climate change kicks the props out from under the entire neoliberal construct.
Yeah,we do sort of hate Marxism.

8. Exactly. It means an end to a gravy train that needed to end anyway.
They're not only fighting it, they're grabbing as many scraps as they can, while they can.
**** off and die asshole.

11. Telling the poor they have to stay poor for our sake (domestically or globally) is a non-starter for
liberals. That may work for "I never have enough" conservatives who think that way with regard to our own poor but it won't work with liberals. In the West we need to minimize our carbon footprint while redistributing the income we already have - over $50,000 per capita.
Useless parasites.

Start with yourself, then ask your fellow DUmmies to follow. We will know we have proper population control when all liberals kill themselves.

“Ultimately, if you think about all the youth that everybody has mentioned here in Africa, if everybody is raising living standards to the point where everybody has got a car and everybody has got air conditioning, and everybody has got a big house, well, the planet will boil over -- unless we find new ways of producing energy.â€~ Barry Obama
Obama wants the poor to stay poor in Africa.

"And starting in the late 20th century, the stupid, self-centered, smug, self-assured, ignorant assholes decided that they could affect the climate . So they spent a huge amount of their time and resources worrying about something they had almost no control over. What a bunch of apes."

Now we're getting a little painfully close to the truth...even if everything the climate nazis said was true, ignoring for the sake of argument the fact that they don't actually have a unified model that will work with real unfudged data, the only way to reverse the human footprint (Again, for the sake of argument conceding it is a principal factor in climate) the human population would have to be reduced by upward of 90% (Probably closer to 98%), with rigidly enforced prohibitions on population growth, for any measurable impact within a century.

I cannot fathom the hubris of someone who claims to have a pointed solution to dealing with the climate of an entire planet subject to the vagaries of a fireball 93 million miles away. If we are to kill people for the sake of the planet, my vote would be to start with anyone who strongly holds such beliefs.
And we should END with those people. We might not solve "climate change," but the internet will certainly be more fun to surf.

Paul Ehrlich also predicted vast famines in the 1970s that would kill millions of people. Still waiting on that ,,, 40 years late and counting ... it's so cute to see unreconstructed ZPG-hippies keeping the faith ...

None of Paul Ehrlich's predictions came true.
He should be thoroughly discredited by now.
I am really struggling to understand why anyone, let alone a lib...would give any creedence to what Paul Ehrlich once posited.

I'm closer to downtown than Rogers Park, but I've thought of going up there to see it first hand and report back.

IOW, people too stupid to live. YOU..............
YOU, retarded, insane, half-educated, sub-human, perpetual children; ensure that the poor will always be with us.

Although I shouldn't be, I am repeatedly amazed at the thoroughly debunked, starshine bullshit, these drones continue to believe in. Simply, mind-boggling.

Careful what you wish for, retards. That may be happening very soon. Even in the Middle East. Iran's birthrate is below replacement.

I remember years ago, there was an urban legend/conspiracy theory that the government had put some sort of chemical to sterilize black people in the hair care products sold specifically for blacks. Obviously the opposite must have taken place.

Other than supporting stealing...oops...I mean civil unrest...can I have a list of the things that liberals have done to keep the poor from staying poor?
And before unions and the liberal support of them are mentioned let me tell a story. I grew up in an area where one company was the major employer. The company was unionized. The floor sweeper at the company made about 4 time minimum wage. As this was the major employer in the area the prices in the stores in the area were tied to this company. In other words, when the union got higher wages, the prices in the stores in the area went up. The problem was that although the company was the major employer most of the people in the area did NOT work for the company. Most of the people in the area worked elsewhere.
With the above in mind travel 30 minutes down the road. This area did NOT have any unionized companies. The people in this area had the same average income of the people in my area who did NOT work for the unionized company. The prices in the stores in neighboring area were MUCH CHEAPER than the area where I grew up.
The moral of the above true but convoluted story is that the poor in the union area were actually more poor than the poor in the non-union area.

Popeyes chicken did very poorly in predominantly black neighborhoods early on for a similar reason.
Rumor had it saltpeter was one of the spices used in the chicken coating.

How dare you deny "science".
Hate to admit it but I was around back when "Dr." Ehrlich was all the rage. The DU poster neglected to mention Ehrlich and other "scientists" were, at that time, predicting glowball cooling back then. The solution was the same, more socialism. And, by the way, Ehrlich's doctorate is in Lepidoptera (butterflies).

Just a few scientists, who were not expressing the majority opinion of the time, were predicting continued cooling and a possible new ice age. Ehrlich was not among them; he actually danced around the concept global warming due to greenhouse gases ... when he wasn't predicting the extinction of humans due to the population bomb.

I love that "how dare you'.
Gutfield used to say it all the time.
His sidekick Bill used to say it with an even better accent.
