Title: White Privilege
Post by: Belle on June 02, 2015, 11:18:59 AM
"In 2010, the St. Paul school district began a contractual relationship with the Pacific Educational Group, a San Francisco-based organization that tries to help public schools deal with achievement and disciplinary issues involving black students."

PEG "claims that the American education system is built around white culture, tradition and social norms – aka “white privilege” – to the unfair detriment of black students."

"PEG believes that black students will only achieve if school curricula are customized to meet their cultural specifications. It also rejects the concept of using suspensions or expulsions to discipline black students."

& PEG's fees are pricey.

As us conservatives would expect, the result "has been general chaos throughout the district, with far too many students out of control because they know there are no real consequences for their actions."

better-ed.org responds:  “Given the recent (and probably ongoing) turmoil in St. Paul Public Schools, it’s time to ask questions about Pacific Educational Group.”  Is that not a typical liberal response?  If it hasn't worked since 2010, just ask questions & keep trying the same interventions.

The "black culture" is not what's best for black kids.
It's as simple as that.

This approach works so well with police in liberal paradises like Baltimore, of course it works with schools.

I grew up and lived in the Detroit area for years; at the time "integration" was a big deal in the push for racial equality and millions upon millions of dollars was spent on upgrading schools, neighborhoods, busing, etc.  It didn't take long before students/families complained that they didn't like going to schools outside of their neighborhoods and there was a shift to spend even more money on inner city schools and programs.  However, studies showed that the amount of money spent didn't make a whole lot of difference.  Graduation rates didn't improve nor did academic grades; in fact, just the opposite happened.

I left the area over 20 years ago and in speaking to friends still in the area and looking at articles; Detroit is in shambles.  The government, architects, builders, contractors, etc., tried to revitalize downtown Detroit on and off for decades unsuccessfully. Whole blocks have been deserted and buildings have been turned into rubble. Detroit is a prime example of the failure of LBJ's so-called "Great Society".

Now, "whites" are moving back into theses areas where blacks have fled and rebuilding and making homes; so should we assume this is due to white privilege?

I think not.  It's a matter of working for a living and striving to make a home rather than expecting a living and a home.  Liberalism hasn't worked in the past, isn't working today and won't work in the future.
