1. They showed the frogmarching on the BBC. People are interested in this.

Qatar was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Here is all I know about Qatar hosting the world cup:

4. This is a world-wide story. People ARE interested in it. Those of us in USA can walk and chew gum at the same time, I'm sure.

no... not really. I mean if it was Rugby or even Cricket, sure.... but soccer?

7. I get that people worldwide are interested and that FIFA is richly deserving whatever justice is meted out. What ticks me off is that this, THIS! is what the FBI chooses to spend its time on in such a target-rich environment. Pick any bank, darn near any corporation ....

Bottom line- a bunch of rich countries who oppress their own citizens paied a shit-load of bribes to an international organization to gain favors... and it wasn't Hillary... this time...

8. They can walk and chew gum at the same time. It ain't their only rodeo by a long shot.

This isn't a new investigation....it's been bubbling along for a quarter century, nearly. I think they always had "some shit" but it was pushed to the back burner because it wasn't quite sufficiently compelling.

I think the straw that broke the camel's back was Qatar....I mean, really, if that's not the STUPIDIST choice to hold a football competiton in a country where the temperatures hit 122 degrees with stunning frequency, I don't know what is. Unless the Qataris are willing to build a few giant, enclosed, air-conditioned stadiums, or hold the games at midnight, it's an asinine choice. Right now, as I type this, it is 99 degrees F on a mild may afternoon in Qatar, down from 103. Who, in good conscience, from a fan or player health and safety perspective, would pick THAT country, unless money changed hands?

It's just absurd. You want it accessible to people in the Middle East? Hell, Turkey would work. Anything's better than Qatar! The Artic Circle has its charms, too!

BUT, WAIT! There is more...

6. FIFA basically paid membership fees for a few charity events.  BUT IT'S NOT A BRIBE!

The Clinton Global Initiative received donations over the years from a lot of people and NGOs and is not being investigated with regard to FIFA.  BUT IT'S NOT A BRIBE!

FIFA paid a membership fee to take part in the annual Clinton Global Initiative event in 2009 and 2010. The New York event brings together world leaders, businesses and NGOs. At the event, private groups making public commitments to undertake specific charitable activities, which are then tracked by the Clinton Foundation. FIFA, for instance, announced it would build 20 community centers in Africa in conjunction with the South African World Cup in 2010.  NOT A BRIBE I TELL YOU!

As for Qatar 2022, a foundation official said the organization was a CGI sponsor in 2013. Sponsorships cost $250,000. The host committee also partnered with  the Qatar National Food Security Programme, committing to use technology being developed for soccer stadiums at the World Cup to improve food security. (The Qatar National Food Security Programme has also donated at least $25,000 to the foundation.)

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/05/27/clinton-foundation-donors-included-fifa-qatar-host-committee/

If Qatar really wanted to get on Bill's good side, it wouldn't have bribed FIFA to get the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the same time Bill was pushing FIFA to get the 2022 World Cup in the United States.

Believe it or not, not every story can be turned into a Clinton smear. Besides, FIFA is in the business of taking bribes, not giving them.

5. The whole world gives a shit about this story.

Rachel Maddow did a really interesting segment on it tonight. FIFA operated like a giant mafia operation, that's why Loretta Lynch charged those guys under RICO. Ironically, it was FIFA execs using American banks as part of their scheme that was one of the reasons that she could bring charges in the US.

The US is the largest media market for soccer in the world, notwithstanding folks like you who have no shits to give.

13. Judging by Putin's response...

...the investigators probably have evidence that Russia bribed the officials.

16. Would that we and our global partners in the money world had shown 1/10th of the fervor behind this FIFA thing. But no, we'd rather find the paper bags full of bribe money and soccer players and their minions that make us seem Real Big and Fighting Crime and Corruption Wherever It's Found. Not.

Don't flame me that I don't think this FIFA is a big deal. It is. Our AG is leading the Charge, apparently, and we're at least embarrassing some of our friends and enemies...good going. Maybe we'll put some of those players behind bar...then what's the rest of the world going to watch? Oh yeah, NBA (I'm a big fan), NFL (not so much), Baseball (not at all.)

There you have it. More money for the above players and advertisers...they already make more than god, but at least we're pure. Thankful for that.

Turns out muzzies are very competitive when it comes to that sport.
Their suicide vests are a handicap though.

Not when they send in one forward wearing it to the goal and sucker in half the opposing backfield.
